Tested the Leatt Brace

I posted this over on ATM, but figured it'd be good to post here as well. I purchased my Leatt through RDF a few months ago. It's part of my "normal" riding gear now and I don't even notice I have it on. If ya'll don't have one, please, seriously consider it. I walked away relatively unscathed from what I was told was a "man-sized crash". The brace is well worth every cent I paid for it..and then some.

Tskwared, his son Jacob and Lawdog made the drive down from N.Texas to 3 Palms yesterday. We, along with BigMaico, met up with them to put in some laps. They got a fair amount of rain this week, but the river track was opened at 11 am. It was pretty soft at first, thankfully the kwads were there to push some of the slop off the track. Conditions like that are pretty much the only time I'm happy to see kwads on the same track I'll be riding on. (No offense kwad peoples, just a personal preference.)

We were having a pretty good, the track was coming around later in the afternoon. That morning I had decided I was going to clear this small double in the middle of the track. In order to do so, I needed to get over the table and through the corner before it cleanly. Having managed to do that several times, I figured next time out I'd give it a try. I talked with Lawdog a bit about what it required and knew that I could do it, just a matter of holding the throttle on, well, and getting out of the corner cleanly.

So I head out, nail the table, get through the corner and start grabbing gears. I'm about middle of fourth up the face, hold the throttle on and bam! I nailed it first try. Oh man, that was fun! I cut the track, circle around and hit it a couple more times. Feeling pretty good, I decide to take a complete lap. Come around, don't get as good a drive out of the corner, but I manage to get into fourth, hold the throttle on and vaguely remember thinking "This is going to hurt". I kind of remember someone stopping and asking if I'm hurt. I thought I had broke my foot.. I think. Daniel and Lawdog were there..I think my bike was being cantankerous and didn't want to start for Lawdog, so Daniel started to kick it...I decided to walk back at this point. It's a darn good thing Lawdog gave me a ride back because I'm not sure I would have remembered where we pitted.

Apparently I provided some good entertainment for the next little bit. I guess Howard asked me the usual questions, date, day, president.... none of which I knew. Thankfully I did remember John's name when asked. I also asked the same questions over and over again... nine times to be exact, Daniel counted for me.

I went to the urgent care place today just to make sure I didn't crack anything in my foot. The doc said it's just badly bruised and that I might have bruised the bone as well.

As for the Leatt brace... from what I gather, I did my very best lawn dart impersonation. The visor on my helmet was pushed all the way down and broken. I can see where I hit the ground. My neck and back are sore as heck today and I'm sporting a small bruise on my neck from my chinstrap (I assume). I am very thankful to have had that brace on because there's no telling what my injuries might have been otherwise. Daniel and I were talking about it today and I'm fairly certain that the brace more than paid for itself yesterday. If you don't have one or have been wondering, I would suggest you very seriously consider getting one. Yes, they are expensive, but I know that I more than saved my $400 back in one day.

Tim, Jacob and James...thanks for giving us the heads up you were headed down. It was fun hanging out with you guys. Thanks for helping me off the track James. And Tim, thanks for cleaning up my helmet. Howard, thanks for going through the drill with me, even though I didn't know any of the answers.

Char - sorry to hear about your crash but I'm very glad to see that you can still write a great post!! I'm really happy that the Leatt Brace worked so well for you. I have now heard so many stories from riders (or their Moms & Dads) about how the brace has worked for them it's unbelievable! We sold out of every brace we took to the Nationals this weekend. I had a local CO racer begging me yesterday to buy my demo brace (which I haven't even had a chance to ride with yet!! ), finally I relented and let him have it. We're supposed to have more in stock this week.

Too bad no one was videotaping you during the crash and afterwards as you were being questioned....Howard? Is that you or are you really Mr. Pringle?

Yeah...I actually wish there was some video. It was comical, no doubt. At least, that's what I gather from listening to the kids...whenever it's brought up all they do is say "So, where'd I crash?" and "Did I look good?" LOL

Char---very sorry to hear of your wad up.....Male,female,,,moto does not discriminate....It bites us all.Although,i'm sure you don't need me to tell you that !!
Very glad to hear that you are OK ,,,,,You know it's good when you can try and remember ,,but can't,,and still get a chuckle out of it....
Again, glad it worked out alright and the Brace did it's job !!!

I didn't you you guys went to 3 Trees...I don't ride there ,but bring my kids out there a couple times a week to get seat time to get ready for H/S races,as i live pretty close...Our families need to meet.

How old are your kids? Mine are 10 and 7 and both ride, albeit slowly. They have fun though, so that's all that matters. We've just moved Anna to a kx65 recently and she's having a bit of a hard time adjusting to the two-stroke. John rides a ttr50 and is a bit timid, but he is improving every time out.

Funny, we live about 10 minutes from 3P's. We'll definitely have to meet up sometime.

Char - Sorry to hear about your crash but thanks for the great write up! I sure am glad you weren't hurt too badly. I heard more stories this weekend about how great the brace is and how people feel so much safer wearing it.
