newbie i maybe down but not out

hello to everyone here at rider down, i was recently informed about your website by one of my physical therapists, appaernt him and the owner of the place im going to had contacted one of main guys here at rider down and talked to him a bit and talked about me but anyways i would like to tell you all a little but about my self. almost 3 years ago i was in a motocross accident and i ended up breaking my neck at c-7 i had a fracture burst at c-7 cracked c-6 and c-8, i am considered a quad but have full movement of one, except i have a slightly retarded hand, everyone says im basicly a para but missing a couple things lol.i was recieving physical thereapy after my accident but all the hospitals want is to get you as independant as they can and thats it which i s pathetic in my eyes but i didnt realise it untill i found out about a place called the neuro institute, they are a rehab facility in tempe,AZ. i had came out here for a visit back in may of 2006 and absolutly loved the way they did things and how hard they worked so around the moth of july i finnaly made the decciosion i was gonna move out to AZ for therapy mind i lived in minnesota, so at the age of 19 moving out on my own and beeing handicapped was kinda scary but i was tottaly excited to get away. man that was the best dission of my life. the therapy has helped me so much. these guys push you and push you they try to get you up and walking with braces they get you on a stim bike, i have recently bought the new suzuki ltr-450 i have put an electric shifter on and rewired the parking brake to fit in a clutch perch so i have rear brakes, and i try to go ridding every weekend if i can, i know this is alot of information and im sure i missed alot but i will try to keep thinking of more but if you have any questions please ask i would love to chat

i also wanted to tell you guys about the surgery im haveing it was just recently moved up to march 20th i kinda of for got to metion it if anyone of you are interesdted in hearing about it. i know alot of you guys with spinal cord ingeries think stem cell i s the answer to all our worries well honestly it can help some but IF ANY OF YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE A SURGERY DONE OR ARE THINKING ABOUT IT CHECK IT OUT, MAKE SURE ITS SAFE MAKE SURE U GET ALL INFO YOU NEED, NO QUESTION IS A DUMB QUESTION, THERE ARE SO MANY SURGERIES GOING ON TODAY THAT ARE EXPIREMENTS AND THEY END UP DOING WORSE. IVE SEEN IT A FEW TIMES. ok so enough about that, im going to have and omentum surgery done, the omentum is around your stomach area and it basicly just sits there, well this doctor aill take and cut that into a form at wich it will be about 3 feet long and basicly pull it thro ur skin to where u were hurt, so in my case c-7 and he will cut me a few times in front to get it up over my shoulder and then he will put a nick in my spinal cord to drain the cyst i have and then lay the omentum over top it and in will grow around there giving my spinal cord all the red blood cells white blood cells and even stem cells that are in the omentum. i know that sounds disgusting and like not very safe or whatever u wanna say lol, but ive seen so much progress from this, if you have any questions at all you let me know i would be more then happy to talk to you give you more information about it.

That sounds like quite a break through state of the art surgery. We'll be very hopeful that it turns out the way you hope.

Please keep us informed and keep up the great attitude you are an inspiration to all!

God Bless and we'll keep you in our prayers.

Welcome to RiderDown. Your story is awesome! You sound so much like my son. He was racing his quad at the Steel City nationals in June of 06 and had a wicked crash. He broke six vertebrae, T3 through T8 with a burst fracture at T6. He is fortunate to just be a paraplegic and has complete arm and hand movement. He was racing an '06 Suzuki LT-R 450. We agree that it is too early to try the stem cell surgery although we are hopeful that results from the surgery will continue to improve in the next few years. I have never heard of the surgery you are having done but I will keep you in my prayers. Please keep us all posted regarding your progress. I have heard of the Neuro Institute from this site and it looks very promising.
I also agree with you about the lack of vision from most therapy units. Independance seems to be their only goal. I would like to see my son continue his therapy with the hopes that he will get more movement and feeling back, but they released him from therapy a few months ago. We begged and pleaded to continue his program, but to no avail. Please PM me with your name and number if you feel comfortable with that. I know my son would love to talk to you. Keep up the great attitude. It will get you far!!
