It has been a while since I have posted. Dillon is doing well and has finished his second class for his freshman year. We had a scare right after Thanksgiving and saw some strange blood pressure issues with seizure activity. There are some slight changes in his personality and expressions that indicated a change in his recovery. There was a small bleed in the frontal lobe. He was having difficulty with remembering discussions afterward also. He seems to be back to improving and we try to monitor him without alarming him or aggitating him. Happy New Year and thank you all for your continued support!!

Dillon has been doing great in the BMX novice class. He has raced 4 times and taken 1st on each one. He has posted the videos on youtube under Dillon Terry. He is going for the 8 wins to move to novice class. He has been so happy and we are seeing some of the "old Dillon" in his attitude and emotions. First time to really see some of that. He is still working on English for his homeschool, which is extremely frustrating and hard for him. I am trying to work with him and help as much as I can, but there is so mucn that is abstract in that...coming up with fill in the blank and writing. It is so hard to see him struggle so hard. His health has been good these past few weeks, which we are so happy for. We continue to pray that continues on the path it has. Don't like the going back and forth like we did between T-giving and New Years. ...Well go on youtube and check him out. We are really proud of him!

Sorry for the long break here between postings. Dillon continues to race BMX, and is now on a team! He was invited to be on KAOS, which stands for "Kids are our specialty". He has done extremely well until he tore his hamstring in the Cajun Nationals.
We just mailed out his freshman year of schoolwork to be graded. I also put in a letter stating some of Dillon's issues with learning. I am hoping the instructor will take all things in consideration. His verbal skills are wonderful. His ability to talk about racing is great. His life skills are somewhat short and his educational level is about 3-4th grade level. I am so proud of him for all his hard work with school. This was not easy for him, or me (trying to teach him). He is done for this summer though. Working on raising the money for next year!!! Well worth it, though, doing the homeschooling.
This summer Dillon is going back for some testing on how his brain has recovered and where some of his deficiencies still are. I knew they wanted to run testing at the two year mark, and it is coming up soon. It will be interesting to see the changes and differences. Dillon is not really looking forward to it though. He doesn't really like anything that points out his weaknesses. I can understand that, completely. It is something we are working on with him though. To realize his brain injury and its disabilities are not holding him down, but to acknowledge them and be an advocate for himself. Let his story be an inspiration to others. I think this will take some time for him though. He still doesn't always see his limitations. It takes some growing up too. I don't put them out there for him though. I don't see the point in putting it in his face when he is succeeding in other areas. I think success in whatever way is more positive. Maybe I'm wrong...don't know.
Well, the last of the news is we moved AGAIN...this time into a house in an older neighborhood. It is real quiet and nice. We are paying $50 more than our apartment and storage was. It is nice to have all our stuff here with us and not spread around. I also have my daughter's things back with us. That's nice. We put Dillon's trophies all in one room, so now he has his own trophy area. I also have an office to work from. I am now working from home for Hilton Worldwide doing reservations. (Was a long 7+ weeks of training onsite, with help from friends to take care of Dillon while I was gone.) Now I can help him with school, daily living issues, dr visits and work to help get us out of our dire situation that we have been in for the last couple of years. (I am ready to be able to pay bills ontime and buy groceries without trying to figure out which one to do...lol. I am sure many of you here know what I'm talking about)
Anyway... that is what's on our plate. I will let you know the results of tests they run on Dillon this summer. I think they said more educational rehab if we could... we will just have to see. I will do my best at getting it for him if he needs it for sure!!!

We have gotten the results of the tests Dillon had but to me it is 9pages of words. We go in next Friday to discuss the results so I will update when I understand more. This last Sunday we took Dillon to ride MX. He has a video up on his website and you tube. It is a little long but worth watching to see how he improves in one day. If you have time check it out. There are a lot of his bmx races on there too. WWW.dillonterry.com.

I finally have the results of testing that Dillon went through. He was tested in many areas including being able to pick out important information in a story, unimportant information, application processing, and many more. Basically what the results show is that Dillon is on the "Average" level on picking out important factors of a story when read and allowed to study for 2 minutes; he is struggling with deep meaning of the underlying story; "Average" on following a conversation; below average on self awareness, behaviors and needs. He is superior on mechanical applications.
When I say "Average" "below average", etc. this is according to the range of tests including non injuried 15 year olds. The doctors told us he has a great foundation to build from for learning and cognitive applications from all the therapy. He has a lot to look forward to. They want to work with him to continue to build on strategies for continued success in school, as well as work with me on how to modify his school work appropriately. We will start this in September. All in all it was good. He has shown great progress from when he crashed. He still has some to go and will always have residual affects from the brain injury, but he is doing great. I am so proud of him!

Dillon has been accepted by the disability and assistive rehab services of Texas (DARS) to receive benefits for rehab!!! Now we wait until around October to have the funding... that is the bad part. We are currently paying for his rehab and will continue to do so until his funding comes through with DARS. Dillon is going to CNS for therapy 1-2 times per week and we are working on finishing his home school. Right now we are paying for his therapy at CNS, and I want to thank everyone that has put money into Dillon's rehab fund in Brenham.
Dillon has had to go through loosing his PawPaw in March. This has been extremely difficult for our family and for Dillon. My dad's request was for money to go into a fund for Dillon's rehab in lieu of flowers. So many people have done that and Dillon is receiving his much needed therapy. Loss of family is so hard for us to go through, and Dillon does not understand the grief process. We have discussed it several times, but it just doesn't sink in for him. Please keep him in your prayers for healing with this.
Daddy also had so much faith in Dillon meeting his goals with BMX. He kept telling me to schedule Dillon's national races and he would help me get Dillon there. I didn't plan on it being through life insurance, but we are traveling to several nationals in BMX and hoping Dillon gets to achieve his goals of going pro and making it to the Olympics!! As of today, he is ranked in the top 20 of his national age group and 169 out of 4067 in the nation. We are hoping he will continue to do well and have fun! This is a very hard sport and it takes a lot for Dillon to continue to place high. It has a lot of balancing, focus and of course physical strength. All good things for him. Our plan is to try and make 7 more nationals for sure, with the hope of going to California if some of his sponsors come through, and the Grands. He has "For Paw Paw" on his jersey and was able to show that to Daddy before he passed. Daddy was so proud! I have added a picture of his jersey and the last race Daddy made it to with Dillon giving his trophy to PawPaw.
We are just focusing on those things with Dillon right now, and keeping him happy!
