Floresville, TX (April 27 & 28, 2013): RiderDown Foundation is “Helping Riders Up” in Texas with Cycle Ranch & Kent Howerton

Cycle Ranch and RiderDown Foundation have partnered in a fundraising effort the weekend of April 27th & 28th during the NMA Grand Nationals Qualifier and Winter Crown Series Finale. In addition to the race action, we are teaming up with the one and only “Rhinestone Cowboy”, Kent Howerton, to host a fundraising event where proceeds will be donated to RiderDown Foundation. Activities range from an R/C Truck and Tractor Pull Expo and Exhibition, a FMX Demonstration, a Texas-style Chili Cook Off and the Saturday Night Benefit Auction, with all kinds of goodies available including some very special autographed gear from Kent Howerton himself! This will be an awesome event with a chance to give back to our sport and help those fellow riders when they need it most.
"I am glad to see Cycle Ranch with a new owner and new management under George Russell, the track and property is looking great. It now has a chance to become one of the best facilities in the US” says Kent. "When I was asked to help Cycle Ranch out with a charity event, I started asking around to find out which one would be a good fit for what we wanted to do, and RiderDown always came up. It has a good reputation and mission, and I think going through them we can get some good things done. I look forward to working with them."
“Everyone at the RiderDown Foundation is excited to have this support from Cycle Ranch and Mr. Howerton,” says Bruce Vermeulen, President and founder of RDF. “Texas has always been an active part of the country for us and to see the strong interest in helping fellow riders is very inspiring. Cycle Ranch is doing an amazing job with the facility, and of course, it’s great to have a legendary rider like Kent working with us!”
Cycle Ranch Motocross has been home to the 4-stroke Nationals, multiple Loretta Lynn’s MX Qualifiers, Santacross, The USA Championship, The realMotocross.com Texas Two-Stroke Championships, EVO Vintage MX Series & the Texas State Championships. Cycle Ranch Motocross has over 100 acres of red dirt and beautiful oak trees. Over the course of the 100+ acres the soil changes from clay to sand and a great mix in between. There is a national caliber
MX track that is just under 2 miles long, a GP Track, a Junior Track, Turn Track and Trails.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to the Rider Down Foundation. Joseph was injured June 4, 2012 at a motocross track in Oklahoma. Even though he was wearing all of his gear and pads, he still suffered a broken back, broken ribs, broken sternum, punctured lungs, fractured shoulder, and multiple cervical fractures. He was life-flighted to OU Medical center, and was there a grand total of 6 weeks. He underwent surgery to stabilize his back, and after being on the ventilator for 3 weeks, had a tracheotomy. After being stabilized from the pneumonia and ARDS, Joe went to Craig Hospital for Spinal Rehab to learn to live his new life being a paraplegic. Rider Down has been so very supportive to Joe. They even paid a visit to Craig giving him some time to be able to talk about dirt bikes with people with his same interest. Joseph is doing so much better. His trach was removed and he is adjusting to life on a new set of wheels. He is positive that he will walk again, and I know that determination is there from the support of organizations like the Rider Down Foundation. Thank you Rider Down for not only some financial support, but also mental support to overcome this injury.

Brian Sperle was injured in an auto accident over the Thanksgiving holiday. Brian is one of northern California's fastest off road guys having won multiple championships and earned multiple medals representing Team USA at the International Six Days Enduro.

Even though it was a car accident his moto roots run so deep I felt sharing his story here was relevant. Sadly Brian suffered a spinal cord injury and currently has no feeling or movement from the chest down.

I clearly remember racing against Brian for the first time. He is such an intense competitor I was scared to death of him and thought he was the biggest bada** ever. As I got to know him I came to realize he is not at all scary, in fact he has a heart of gold and a great sense of humor. He is, however, a real deal bada**! He has the heart of a lion and will fight this with every ounce of his being. He has great family support, but extra support from the moto community couldn't hurt!

Here is a link for the latest updates:

http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/briansperle

Donations to his recovery fund can be sent to:
Edward Jones
Attn: Ryan Powell/Jim DeCota
755 Baywood Dr. Suite 370
Petaluma, Ca 94954

Any and all encouragement, advice, help, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
