Had a very fun time this Sunday at the NETRA Snow Run enduro.
We've had an up and down winter this year, but it did snow about 3 inches on the day before the race. This was after about a week of warmer temperatures and rain. It was hard to decide what gear to wear and what tires to put on the bike. I ended up running 16mm spikes on the front and car studs on the rear that I'd left protruding about 3mm.
In the morning loop was 25 miles and we had every kind of terrain and weather possible. It snowed, rained, the wind blew at 40mph and then the sun came out. Mostly rocky terrain with lots of elevation changes and off-camber sections. I came into the gas stop down 18 minutes. I was not able to leave again on my original minute because I spent a lot of time trying to set up another pair of goggles. My first pair were trashed from a 3 mile section of wet pine branch face-slappers.
The afternoon loop was 35 miles and very, very muddy. I ended up making several passes while guys were stuck in the mud...some of them up to the airbox.
I ended up dropping a total of 57 which gave me 2nd place in the B-Heavy class. The guy that took 1st in the class had a score that rivaled the A riders so he may promote out before too long. Next race isn't until May
