RiderDown Members Jim Dizney and Les Walker raced the Full Throttle 100 AMA District 38 Desert Scramble this past weekend "1/20/08".
The course was a rough rugged and just plain beat up. It was a loop race with 5 x22-mile loops, consisting of what you expect from a good desert race, Silt, Rocks, Dust, Sand.
For me, the race started off a little slow, A dead engine bomb start and I could not tell if my bike was running, so I got off the line a little late “LAST” but I was able to work my way up to the top 10 before the end of the bomb run “approx 1 mile”. From there it was a mixed single/double track run through varied terrain. The first 5 miles turned out o be the hardest with a few rocky silt hill climbs that caused a few bottlenecks, so you had to explore some creative lines to not get caught in the mess. I was lucky for the most part of the silt in that I had a clean run the first lap and no issues with stuck riders. There where plenty of guys stuck all over the hills and they look exhausted and this was the first lap. SILT SUCKS!! I think my luck through the silt was a major factor of my result; I have plenty of silt riding experience and just knew how to deal with it, I GUESS! The rest of the course was a winding track up and over silty rocky ridges; through sand washes and then a high speed run back to the start finish line. Fun indeed.
It was great to see Jim, at this event, I believe Jim has not thrown his leg over a bike for a race for a long while “1970’s ??” , and I look forward to seeing him at these events throughout the year!
Way to go Jim..
He finished 6th place in his division and I was lucky enough to score a win and get some transfer points to move up to a higher division.
I am number 116s and Jim is 21m look for us at these events to say Hello!
