Howdy all!
I found your forum thru ktmtalk, and where I'm a member/lurker...
Me: 53 y/o male. Kids finally (!) outta the house and I can get back to 'livin the dream'! After a 20 year hiatus from motorbikes, I'd purchased a KTM 950 Adventure, geared up, and took off for a month trip to the Mid-west from my home in Idaho. Upon my return, and knowing that winter is a but a storm away, a friend and I went out to eat-up some back country while the gittin' was good! Since I was new to the 'dirt' territory out here, he lead most of the day, but I got out in front at one point, and since I was riding the pegs, didn't notice when he stopped for a piss. Well, what happened was that I approached a small incline too fast, as on the top of it was a left turn. I almost made it, but right next to the road was a narrow and deep drainage canel and was cut about a foot off of the road. Long story short, my front wheel 'stuck-it' and launched me about 25 yard over my bars, landing me on my helmet/visor/shoulder. This landing position resulted in a C6 fracture. Dang, this sucks!
So I've been semi bed-ridden, and definetly home bound, as I'm a menace driving with my neck-brace on! I go back to the Spinal specialist in a couple of weeks, and have a ton of questions about what my future holds, and of which I'd love to hear from you regarding: * is there life after an injury like this, or does one hang-up everything exciting/challenging/dangerous? * How much PT can one expect? * Prognosis; general... It seems lame to ask these questions of you rather than the Doctor, but each visit equals $$, and the only time that I did see him, he was not very forth-telling for some reason. (Maybe it was me and the drugs I was on then, or maybe he didn't want to say anything until things 'stabilized', I dunno).
Sorry if I've left a bunch of holes in my first post, but I suppose that I'll get the chance to fill in the missing pieces as time goes on.
This is a great community, and one of which I was affiliated with before I actually NEEDED YOU! Oh well, good things will come of it yet!
Blessings,
Robert
