View Full Version : Another kid shirt idea

Well, I drew another picture, but I still don't think it's good enough to put on a t-shirt. And thinking about it further, the older kids might not be into it too much.
I saw that you were asking about interest in the kid's forum on KTMTalk about kid-sized shirts.
Since they seem to really be into motocross racing, maybe you could ask in that forum for some pictures of their kid's in action. Then use one of the pictures and do a silhouette-style like your original shirt (like what you had in mind earlier about a kid shirt).
You could even go so far as to start a contest up (if there's enough interest) for a kid's t-shirt design. Winner could get a free shirt.
Just ideas... either which way, I'd get a shirt, or two.
Your raffle went off great, by the way, pretty fun in the chat room.

Crazyhouse,
I like the action you have been taking on this, you are part of the RiderDown family and should run with that Idea. I know I would feel like I would be lacking some in respect with initial ideas an work you have done on the subject.
So feel free to get a consensus and ideas of what you're looking for. This is a team effort and an organization for us all not just a few. :D

Wow!
Thanks Gatlin5, I don't know what to say.
Should I post in the mini forum on KTMTalk about picture ideas?
I haven't posted in that forum yet, I was just starting to dip my toes in there since we are looking into what bike we would like to get next for our oldest boy. Would the message come across okay if it came from a newbie to the forum, do you think?
Man, Riderdown family, that's very nice of you.

Hi Crazyhouse,
I would post it in the mini section to start, that's where all the parents are that will know what their child would like. I think it would be a good way for you to get comfortable with them and they will be a great help if your looking for a bike for your oldest. A lot of them are the die hard racing families and you'll get some great input. Ruthie C is one of our volunteers too, she's in your neck of the woods and has children, I think they are more of a trail riding family, very nice people.
After you have a few days under your belt in the mini section I'd put it in General section too. There will be a lot more parents of children that are more into trail riding.
Well, go get em and remember have fun.
Good Luck

Feel free to use a picture of my son :D Im not shy when it comes to bragging about my children ever  (Had to jump on the opportunity before you post in the Mini section LOL) Oh by the way hes very photogenic ....I'll stop now

50ccMoM,
I think you might have to post it over there. I don't know how Gatlin5 does the shirt printing (I have no idea how that works). I was just thinking we'd all post up some pictures, some ideas, then those that have the power to put it into t-shirts just pick the one (or ones) they like.
I guess I could try to do a picture of your kid. I only now just got photo editing software so I'm still playing with it.
Gatlin5,
Yeah, we're trail riders also. That's why it was a little overwhelming lurking on the mini sight and realizing there's a whole nother world out there. The bike that we are looking into (the KTM 50 senior adventure) doesn't sit high on the list of approved bikes for what the majority in that forum do. Still, KTMTalk is definitely the KTM site to go to for any information.
Here goes... I'm nervous.

p.s. Oh, by the way, I'm PumpkinPatch on there. Just in case you wonder who the crazy post is coming from. :D

I'm anxious to see what develops here! I can't say thank you enough for working on this project. We are all here to support each other & most of the folks on KTMTalk in the mini section will bend over backwards to help also.
Remember --- have fun! :P

Yeah, it should be interesting to see what happens with it. Hope I did okay.
Since I figured out how to post a pic there, I guess (per one of our previous discussion) that I can now post it here.

Great Job, it looks good. Kind of a strange way to have to post a picture but pretty cool that you can paste it around the web. A few of the RiderDown guys still don't know how to do it but we won't mention any names.
I think you'll get some good responses, Good work.

Crazyhouse, PumpkinPatch, or ? ....great job! Brendan's Dad was right on about MotoDrive - it can get kinda nasty over there but as it seems like a younger crowd they do probably have some graphic design talent. I think you were right to answer in the manner you did.

Thanks guys,
As you can see from my KTMTalk info. I haven't posted much, even though I've been there awhile (I might even have more posts here :D ). That's because a) pretty much everything has been talked about and can be found by searching and b) I get a busy brain then end up babbling too much which probably makes things hard to read through.
I like reading all the joking and quick replies between folks who seem familiar with each other. Some people are very quick witted and their style (or their meaning) comes across well in print. I don't think I'm there yet.

I LOVE that picture Crazyhouse! I think it would be a great shirt.
Don't let anyone talk you out of a SR. Adventure. Those are great bikes for the trail. We have a Jr Adv that my daughter's on now- excellent in the desert, on the trail and she has fun at the track too.

It has gotten a little quiet on the Kid's shirt idea. I know you have had your hands full Ruthie and CrazyHouse well, must be hard keeping all the good ideas flowing in a crazyhouse full of kid's?LOL

Sorry, my boy was off all last week (President's Day week). We ended up getting him an '04 KTM Senior Adventure and trying it out a couple of times. He loves it! I think it'll be a great little bike for him.
Things seemed to have run out of a little steam, huh?
I like your picture that you posted over on KTMTalk, Gatlin5. That '60's-'70's theme is pretty neat.
Well, seeing as how we have a new toy in the household, I had to take some pictures. Here you go...

I like it, that's pretty cool.
Congrats on the new bike, he must be really excited and driving everyone crazy to go riding. :D
Things have slowed down on the T shirt idea's and the T shirt sale threads. People don't spend a lot of time looking through the RiderDown area at KTMtalk. It really needed to stay in General or General Mini. Well it's Pat site and it's his prerogative. We'll get there, it will just take a diferent route.
Thanks for all your work, it's fun to see the ideas.

I really like it also, it's a great design! :D
I'm working on a cost effective way to get these produced - we should have some info within a week or so.
What we need now are some additional ways to market these & bring some attention to the cause. Any new ideas on that front?

Thanks guys!
It was fun to do. I made an iron-on transfer of the one with the flames and put it on a baseball jersey for my oldest. He really likes it.
I didn't put the RiderDown name on the shirt since I didn't ask first (about using the name, and all), but I could add it at any time if it's okay.
I had just picked up a couple practice-type jerseys at the sports store. Yellow sleeves look good with the flames. I did, however, have a brain fade moment. I was ironing on his name and a number on the back sports-style. I forgot to flip the image before I printed it out. Ironically the name EDDIE is the same regular and in a mirror image. It wasn't until the next morning when he was wearing it that I realized the number (which should've been "06") was flipped mirror like... doh! Oh well, he still wore it to school. It was looking real good up until then. I guess I'll have to try on another one. He wants to go riding some more just to get some more pictures to put on a shirt!
I don't have any ideas at the moment for marketing other than the word-of-mouth-over-the-internet-thing.
Could they be sold in bike shops? How does that work?
Kid's that have lots of riding friends could wear the shirts around and that would hopefully get some others to be interested.

Great Job!

I agree. I put that on there to see what the words would look like with the picture. If you wanted that picture, I could give it to you. Then you could add the words, or change it however you liked.
Thanks for all the compliments :)

I know we have all had a problem with our pictures getting blocked out. I felt bad that we had taken up some of the other sites bandwidth and really never realize I was putting a burden on them. I have apologized and reset most of our RiderDown doc's and pictures elsewhere.
If you would like to reload your pictures you can do so for free at www.putfile.com, you can even put on videos and then attached them here.
The best way to add it to your post from there is as follows:
1) After uploading your picture or pictures, click on the picture you would like to post to enlarge it.
2) Right click the mouse over your picture and select properties on the dialogue box that opens.
3) next to address highlight the address, looks like this http://x10.putfile.com/3/6619394496.jpg then right click and copy.
4) Go to the place in your post you want to put the picture, then right click and paste what you just copied.
5) Highlight the new address you just inserted in your post then click on the IMG button on the tool bar of your posting window. Your picture should now be in your post. A lot easier then it sounds, honest just try it once.
you can now go back to your post and edit your pictures back in.
Good Luck

Ooops, I hadn't gone to those pages that had pictures on them. I didn't even know we couldn't post them "the old fashioned way".
Now I'll have to get used to some new fangled way? Aaah, change. I suppose I'll have to look into that putfile thing...
Other than that, how are things going? Good, I hope.

Hey Crazyhouse,
Yea, sorry about the picture deal, we hoped to have our own photo gallery here in the next few months. The putfile is really not difficult to do but it is a little different than before.
Everything is going really well we are working on a couple of real exciting relationships and events that we hope to announce in the near future. How are things with you and, well the crazyhouse? :D

That's great things are going good for you guys.
I just saw your article in the BRC magazine. Nice.
Our crazyhouse is doing, well, crazy, but that's to be expected. We've even been able to go out and do some dirtbike riding these past couple of weekends so that's been fun. Now we're planning our once-a-year road trip out to New Mexico to my father-in-law's place to do some riding during spring break. So everybody's looking forward to that.
All in all, things are good.

Crazyhouse (and anyone else who would like to come out with some families that love to ride) come join us in Ocotillo Wells April 28-30. Its only about 2 hours from you and some awesome riding. Lots of kids, all ages and abilities will be there. Hope you can join us. Shoot me a PM if you are interested and I'll give you directions. :D

It would probably only be for the Saturday and Sunday, however. I doubt my husband would be able to take the Friday off.
I know the kids would love it.
I'll put it on the calendar for a reminder.

Then use one of the pictures and do a silhouette-style like your original shirt

Can lighten or darken the rider. I took the shot with the sun in my face to get a nice silhouette...this one is of course enhanced to blacken him out completely.

I just read the other thread - Tell Brendan I think it's an awesome fender kiss! Way better than I could ever do, that's for sure!! Kids crack me up. My faviorite move is the "butt whip" I always see off the finish line. But I'm sure in those kids minds they're Travis Pastrana!

Hey BD, that's a good picture!
I voted on the #2 one in your KTMTalk poll. I liked that one because you could see his eyes. It looked pretty neat seeing the focused/determined eyes.
Mine would probably be popping out of my goggles with that move because it would surely mean that I wasn't planning on being in that position

I suppose most parents would prefer their kids to imagine themselves as Travis rather than Brian Deegan! Twisted Evil
So true (at least in this house).

I have to say that I never in my life thought I would defend Deegan but I had an experience where he shocked me. I was Lake Elsinore MX park a couple years ago and while my husband and sister watched the other kids on the 60/80 track I went over to the completely empty peewee track with my daughter who was then 4. She had a PW50 with training wheels and I normally would never let her go out on the track because I think training wheels are dangerous to other riders. So I'm watching her go around when up pulls this big black Excursion with the limo tint windows and just sits there idling. This thing was huge- I'm tall and I'd need a step ladder to get in it! They sat there and watched her for a good five minutes. It unnerved me after a little. Then finally the window rolled down and Deegan was driving! That smile is unmistakable!! He asked how old she was and what her name was. The next lap when she came by us the four guys in the Excursion all started cheering her on!! Then they waved and took off. I never figured out who else was in there but I don't take Deegan's antics as seriously now. Plus I've heard he's changed. Also, it may be rumor but I heard Nate Adams bought the MM compound. So there's my Deegan story. Sorry to go so off topic!
We will miss you Crazyhouse5. Hope to meet up with you soon.
BD, that's a great shot of your son...I also voted for choice #2, but all three choices were nice.
If we need some digital photo help or print ideas I will drag my husband into this discussion. He works for Canon, with photo printers & digital cameras. He is very good with the camera and has resources in the digital world that amaze me. (I know, I know..I'm married to a photo wizard and I am a true tech lizard, as is evidenced by the lack of photos, etc. in my posts!)
BTW, I agree with RuthieC on Deegan. Each time we have run into him in So Cal, he has been gracious and kind. I am inclined to believe his bad boy image is a bit of marketing genius. He is doing a benefit freestyle show for his church this month. He's probably a pretty decent guy...but that tough guy/bad boy thing sells better.

I like BD's ideas. Silhoetted kid in action, kind of goes with the adult shirt theme.
I thought it was sort of a "post whatcha got" kind of thing, then the head RiderDown guys would be choosing what they like.
Whichever it turns out to be, I'll be buying one... or two.
