Jessica is 13 years old and loves motocross. She had a very tough crash while running in second place and trying to avoid another downed rider in a blind spot on the track.

She severely injured her wrist and had successful surgery to put it back together. The prognosis is good and she is in good spirits.

Wish her the best!

Hi to all,

This is Jessica's Dad. I didn't realize Tony had posted this until today. Anyway Jessica is still doing fine. She goes back to her orthopedic on 11-26-07. Doctor says they will remove the cast and if the xrays look good and she promises him to not ride her bike or her horse he will not re-cast it. The bad thing about it though is she will have to have another surgery to remove the plate and screws so there will be more down time for her. Someone had ask about her bike, well it fared okay. The handlebars are real messed up and the rear fender hase a hole in it from the subframe. She say she wants to leave the fender so everyone can see her battle scars. I think the ones on her arm would be more impressive if she has to have battle scars. Thank you all for your Kind words and a big thank you to Tony for all you have done and for posting this. I don't know if I can post videos on this site or not but I have her crash in digital form so if someone could direct me I will post it. It makes me sick to my stomach to watch it.

God Bless,
Jody, Dawn and Jessica Cook

Jessica Update

She got her cast off today and Doc said everything looked good. She is going to start Therapy Wed. so wish her luck. Those first few sessions will be tough for her. Thanks everyone for your prayers. I'm going to try and post the video of her crash on My Website and Post a link here to it. You really can't see much after she impacts the other bike and goes over the bars but you can see her bike fliping behind the jump.

Thanks,
Jody Cook

The link is not working. Anybody know how to do this?

Here's the latest from the Cook family. Jessica, we're all pulling for you and anxiously awaiting the first photos of your return to riding!!!

Hi Tony,

Jessica is making progress with the therapy. She will go back to her doctor on Dec 27th and hope fully we will find out if she will need to have the plate and screws removed. I'm hoping that will not have to happen. Her doctor is going to prescribe her one of the CTI Wrist braces so that she can ride with it. Her doctor is a really cool guy. He told us that he thought it was awesome that she rode motorcycles and horses. All the other doctors she seen made us feel awful for letting her. We strive to make her happy and give her every opportunity we can. I think getting hurt or god forbid killed doing something like this is a lot better than getting into drugs and all the stuff that goes along with them. I know if parents would be more involved in what there kids are doing there wouldn't be all the drug problems. I think motocross, horse riding and really any sport teaches our kids responsibility and how to make rational decisions whether it be choosing the right line to take on the track, how hard to push you horse to get the best time or take the shot or pass to a open teammate. Basically keep there minds active and engaged and not just sitting on the couch. I guess the way I look at it is there is more people including kids hurt or killed in car wrecks than on motorcycles. There are risk with every thing we do. We will all get hurt at some point in our life someway so we must take every step to protect ourselves and go ahead and take the challenges that come in life. Always know your limits and parents shouldn't push their kids to do something they are not ready for. To be safe we must all progress at our own speed not how our buddies think and even kids can tell when there ready for something new, but parents should be their guidance and consoler. Enough of the rambling. Were you able to find a volunteer in our area? I've been thinking about after we get through Christmas and this broke arm becoming a volunteer for our area and really promoting RDF. Again thank you for all you do.

Thank You,
Jody

Gear bag made it to Jessica safely. Handlebars should be next! Here's a message from dad.

Tony
THANK YOU so much. We just got home and got the ARC gearbag full of stuff - Jessica was SO EXCITED!! We have taken lots of pictures of her with the stuff. Thank you so very much.
I know you just mentioned a set of handlebars too. I don't know if those were sent in a seperate package, but Fed Ex just left one carton and it was the one with the gearbag, so I thought I'd let you know that.
As soon as I can get these pictures uploaded of her with the gearbag of stuff, I will send them. Again, thank you for all that you and RiderDown do for the riders and their families.
Thanks!
Jody

Thank you so much it really means alot to know that there is still people in this world that care enough to do something like this for a total strangers. You guys rock. We consider everybody here at RDF as our friends. Maybe one day soon we can meet in person to say thank you. To Tony, even though we have not met I can say that you are great and caring person and we are greatful for all your efforts.

Hi all,

Jessica and I had our first race of the season this past weekend and we both did great. Jessica placed first in both motos in the womens class. The track officials wouldn't let her run in the girls class with the CRF150RB. Last year I ran in the 125 classes but my stamnia isn't as good as those youg fellows out there and I was getting tired and still pushing myself to much to keep up which is not a good combo. Anyway I raced the 35+ class, I think I was the only one on a 250F. Everyone else was on 450Fs. I didn't know just how much dirt and rocks one of those things can sling.:yikes In both motos Off the gate I got killed but by half a lap I worked my way to the front and never looked back taking first over all. I guess all those races with the younger guys made this class seem easy:D . Also on a more important note I was given the okay to speak at the riders meeting about RDF. I talked about 3 mins. and everyone seemed very interested in what I was saying. I had several people stop me and ask for more info, which I gladly gave. It was good that We had actually experienced what RDF can do and was able to share that with everybody. I handed out a bunch of flyers and all the arm bands to the kids.(Bruce I need more arm bands if possible):thumb Dawn took about 150 pictures so as soon as we can go through them I will post some for all to see. The announcer talked about RDF during the whole day while plugging in the RDF web address so I know every one at that race has heard about RDF.:thumb Pictures comming soon.
