This post was copied from another forum with permission from the author. If you can do anything at all to help show support to this family it would be greatly appreciated.

"Those of you that were at the races Saturday night are aware that Bob McCormick was injured that night. First, thanks to the paramedics and WHR crew, you were all great- I will keep my opinions of Lourdes Hospital off the Board, and also a special thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers--

After all the dilemia at Lourdes, Bob ended up having an ambulance ride back to Spokane and went straight into surgery. It is not looking good. He has a fractured tib/fib (mid to low shin area) and his ankle is a "bag of bones"--there are over 20 broken. The largest concern is nerve damage, he still has no feeling in his foot, and the doctor has already discussed amputation.

Many of you know that Bob and Tanya lost their son Willie on October 8th while racing, and this was on 1/7--just 3 months later. They have no insurance and Bob is the sole income provider, now not able to work for an unknown period of time.

I would be happy to keep any of you updated, feel free to give me a call at 509-995-7038 or email me at bristlin@omnicast.net

I'll talk to Tanya a bit later about keeping a post going on their site (http://www.superflyskids.org) and providing updates there.

Thanks again,
Dawn Bristlin"

The accident happened on the the 7th of January in Pasco Washington "Arenacross"
As an update Bobs foot was amputated just below the knee on Tuesday. Please say a prayer for this Family again. Get well Bob and remain strong Tanya. We keep praying for you guys.

Some of you may recall that Willie McCormick was a 10 year old motocross racer that died on October 8th, 2005 while racing in Spokane Washington. His stepdad--in my opinion, father, Bob, has now had his right leg amputated due to a motocross injury on January 7th. The leg was amputated about 5 inches below the knee.

Bob is hoping to be back on a motorcycle by May. Some people think that is just plain insane, those that know Bob, realize that is what keeps him going, and it is his connection to his son, Willie.

Bob was discharged from the hospital. He was inpatient for 2 weeks, 1 day with 2 surgeries (the first was for pinning the tib/fib fracture). He's less concerned about loosing his leg and the rehab ahead, more concerned about getting back to work and making an income.

He was the sole provider for the family, self-employed, with no insurance. Just to be discharged from the hospital he needed a walker--$160.00. Any help you can provide is appreciated.

Also, a special thank you to Bruce and the RiderDown organization. You have been so supportive through all of this. I only hope I can return the favor.

Hi Dawn,

Thanks for taking the initiative to contact us. Bruce has kept all of us updated with your progress reports on Bob McCormick, so we were all aware of his battle and decision.

I can't even begin to imagine what that poor family has had to deal with emotionally with the loss of their son Willie, that alone is more than any of us should ever have to endure. I can really understand his passion to want to get back on the bike by May, it gives him something to focus on and push through these terrible times and I'm sure it is something that makes him feel his connection with his son very strongly. We'll be in his corner rooting for him to reach his goal.

We would be glad to help anyway we can. There are a few areas of assistance that are just coming on line and we'd be glad to talk with the McCormicks when they're ready.

Until then we will stand by, think of and pray for better times for the McCormicks.

God Bless,

Joe

Well, Bob's been home from the hospital now for about 3 weeks I think. This is probably the first real week though that it's really been "Bob" who's been there. He's had some struggles with the pain meds, and finally has kicked all of them. They just take over him too much. He has had one "meltdown", but all in all is doing amazingly well. He fortunately has a very loving wife and step-daughters that keep him "in line".

One of his hardest battles is having the ability to really do nothing but sit on the sofa. He just had his cast removed and staples taken out, and he said he just got his "helmet" yesterday. Apparently it's a very colorful "helmet" that Tanya and the oldest stepdaughter, Shaina designed for him. He is to get his first leg in about three weeks, and they guy at the orthotic place said that he should actually be walking pretty well in about 5 weeks. The "helmet" helps shape the stub and protect it at the same time.

As if loosing Willie and part of Bob's leg isn't enough, their landlord, who happens to be the contractor Bob has done work for for 16 years, has served them with an evection notice. Tanya has been busy working on that, so hasn't had much time to update the superflyskids.org website, but there are new posts there, so if you haven't had a chance, please check it out.

One cool thing that Tanya has is the Willie Wear. I just designed some custom sweatshirts with the graphics that we had for my family and the McCormicks--I'm excited to get those, and will try and post a picture for you. If there is something you would like printed on a sweatshirt or TShirt, or pretty much you name it, they can do it (coffee mugs, boxer shorts, thong underwear-we aren't going there though  !), please email me at bristlin94@msn.com and I can work with you to create something. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of these items goes to the Willie McCormick Youth Foundation.

Thank you to everyone who continues to keep the McCormick family in their prayers.
