Hello all, there was a Hangover HS race at Budd's Creek MX Park. A rider was injured on the first lap and had to be airlifted. An updated was just recently posted so I wanted to post the info here....

On January 8th a rider at Budds Creek Harescramble went down hard. He is a young man (27 or so). He has friends here in the district and was just returning back to the racing scene. His name is Deon Brauer. On the first lap he had crashed. He was Airlifted to the University of Baltimore. His Back/spinal cord is badly damaged. He is now in rehab. Sadly he remains paralyzed from the waist down. He is self employed and has no medical coverage.

Please keep him in your prayers or thoughts. you can send cards, letters and any other help $$ you can to:

Deon Brauer
c/o 308 Market Street
Lykens, PA 17048

This is his grandparents address.

Thanks Ted.

Lets hope this young man makes it thru this OK.

I heard he is in good spirits and is determined. Thursday he had an exam that showed very slight sensations in his waist area. Docs said this is good, so lets all pray that this continues for him.

Here is some updated info ref donations. The person doing this has been around our VA series for many, many years. He designed the original computer scoring and now the transponder scoring we use....

All,

As many know - a rider was seriously injured at Hangover Hare Scramble at Budds Creek on the 8th of January. Apparently his front wheel clipped the rear wheel of person in front of him, he hit a bump, and got tossed - sort of like a high side. He was at least 3 foot in air and sideways when he hit the tree.

As a result, he's paralyzed from the waist down - and it's not looking good. He was self employed - without health insurance.

Another rider asked me ..... "what can we do for him" - and it struck me .... SOMEBODY needs to start the ball rolling, so I'll take it on. Unfortunately it's past the holiday season when we traditionally see the benefit events - so lets band together and help this guy when he needs it.

I'm asking that anyone who reads this, please take a minute of your time and make a contribution - any size. I also ask that as clubs, someone bring it up at the next club meeting and see if you can lend a hand.

I'll collect any money and ensure every dime gets to him. I'd love to be able to present him with a list of a thousand rider names, indicating there's a group of riders out there who care. I'd also like to be able to indicate which club / series each rider is involved with - and any other note you'd like to pass along. I'd rather not include in the presentation the individual amounts given - but that's reasonable - just dont know if it's appropriate.

If you're interested, you can pay via pay pal, or cash, or a check. In all cases, please include your name and your club.

Via pay pal - make it to boumaj@predicate.com

via check or cash - send to

John Bouma
1320 fairway Dr.
Chesapeake, VA 23320

Again - please ensure you indicate which club / series you're involved with.

I'm thinking that we'll let this ride for about a month, then close it around the 1st of March. If someone else has a better idea on how we can help this guy - I'm all ears.

ride safe,
John Bouma

Ted,

Thanks for keeping us updated on Deon. John sounds like a pretty special person like yourself. We will be discussing this at our next meeting and will need to talk with you and John. We will PM you for your phone numbers and see what we can do to help get some assistance in place.

In the mean time we will continue the prayers for Deon and if you have any other info please feel free to share it anytime.

Thanks

Joe
