While my accident wasn't moto related, I love to ride/race in hare scrambles and enduros on the east coast. I have raced since 1998 and am now an A rider offroad. I figured I'd drop you a line incase you have any advice or suggestions. I'm currently seeing a neurologist, neuropsycologist, and several different eye doc's.
Here the deal....
I work as a police officer. On July 4th 2005 at approx 2am I was on a traffic stop. I just returned to my patrol car when a drunk driver struck the rear of my patrol car. The drunk was driving about 50-55mph and I was stationary. We have shotguns mounted on the patrol shield which basically puts the gun and mounts above and behind the driver of the patrol car. I struck the right side of my head on the shotgun mount, bending the steal mount up to the roof with the side of my head. I was knocked silly for awhile and didn't know what happened. I remember getting out of the car and falling on the ground. Most other things I don't directly remember but have read the witness reports and listened to the dispatch radio traffic of me calling for assist. I don't remember using the radio. Anyhow, I was diagnosed with a minor concussion at the ER after getting a CT of my head and belly. After visiting a neurologist I was diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome.
Fast forward to now,,,I still experience blurred vision (I had better than perfect vision before) headaches (although they are much better if I stay on the meds from the neurologist), periods of unsteadiness and loss of balance control while standing, problems going to sleep and then falling back asleep if something wakes me up. I also have problems working through problems and multi-tasking which I was very good at before. I have some shaking in my hands especially my left hand (I'm left handed), and at times become very irritable which probably has to do with the lack of sleep. I'm getting pretty frustrated with still having these symptoms after this time and having the doc's tell me the symptoms should be gone in 3-4 months. Is there anything I should be doing to help my recovery? I have had an MRI with only minor items observed by the doc's on the MRI.
I know it must be impossible to offer advice for an injury like this but any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, there is little to do but wait. Take tylenol for the headaches, explain to the job and the wife that you won't be firing on all 8 for a time, and expect to be fine in a couple of months.

Be happy that is hasn't been worse

Good luck and God Bless

Thanks for the response Doc. Figured it was worth a shot to look for more suggestions. My neuro has me taking stuff each night before bed to ward off the headaches. Works pretty well if I don't overdo it. Interesting part is the only time I feel really good is when I do some trail riding on my bike. All the stress fades away and I'm happy. Work doesn't really care too much. They assign us to the dungeon to take reports over the telephone for things the PD shouldn't really take reports for to begin with.
Oh well.

Thanks again for responding and a great big thank you for helping out here!!!! Stay safe!
