I was injured about 2 months ago, losing two and a half fingers off my right hand and sustaining moderate nerve damage to my legs. Wish I could say I was flying over a triple or something exciting, but it was very much a freak accident over a blind double. The last two months have felt like 8. Ggrrrrrr. First meeting my surgeon, he figured 6-8 months of recovery. How the heck am I am not going to work for 6 months?! Aside from the financial issues, just not being able to do my job, learning how to do everything left-handed, time will not pass fast enough. Prayers would be awesome... talking to other riders and help in figuring out how to modify my machines would be great.

Tried to ride for the first time this past weekend since injury. Saturday was on a friend's quad and Sunday was on my dirtbike. Didnt do as well as I had hoped but I know I have unrealistic expectations and have little to no patience with myself. I just so miss riding.

I am hoping to get clearance from my doc to go back to work soon. As long as the county I work for is in agreeance, I should at least be able to get back on the ambulance. I can at least do the paramedic thing. The firefighting side of my job will have to wait another 2-3 months for my broken finger to heal. I see a light at the end of the tunnel!!!!

Christina,

I will pray for you, and remember not to be so hard on yourself. Time does heal a lot, and when your ready and your body is ready you WILL find a way to do whatever you set your mind to. Hang in there. I know they can make a wrist brace type of device with a built in prosthetic that might enable you to hold on to your bike, do you have anything like that yet?
Keep looking up and ahead, it will get better for you.

YEAH ! ! ! ! ! I just got some great news! I've convinced my doc to let me go back to work! I am 3-4 months ahead of schedule and still have another 4 months or so of therapy, but I will at least be free of my house every third day. I wont be fighting fire for another few months, but I can at least work the ambulance. I start back on Saturday. <grinnin from ear to ear>

Oh... and I rode again this weekend. :) Did much better on the bike, just need to get some good seat time in. Still on the beginner loop, but thats fine. A friend of mine is just learning to ride, so I can blend in pretty well. ha! I just gotta figure out a way to move my front brake somewhere else so I can use it. Have a great week.... stay safe.

I don't say much around here but I've been watching this one. The pics are NASTY.:yikes I lost use of my right hand for a solid 6 months with only two surgeries. I now have 85% use of it and few people notice that it's "messed up". I got so accustomed to doing certain things with my left hand that I STILL prefer it over my right more than 3 years later. You'll adapt just fine.:thumb
My prayers are with you during your recovery. I'm a pretty impatient guy so I can identify with you.;)

Christina,

You have a tremendous amount of heart and will. That is awesome. I have been so caught up with Jerico that I haven't read many other postings. Plus, believe it or not, I ride Harleys too and just two weeks prior to Jerico's wreck I had another friend die on his harley after we just rode 2200 miles to Ft. Worth, TX and back. So it has been crazy for me for awhile. Just remember, you can do what ever you put your mind to and it sounds like you don't have a problem with that. Keep it up and I will be thinking about you and checking in on you.

Hey guys! Life is going so amazingly well. The joke around here is that God tried to slow me down with my hand injury and it wasnt looking like that was gonna happen, so He has blessed us with a little one on the way. That is SURE to slow me down at least a little bit and keep me off my toys for a while. That part stinks but I know it will be well worth it.

I have been back at work since June 2nd and have been getting back into the swing of things. There are a few things here and there that have required lots of patience on my part, but oh well. I have been cut lose from therapy and Dr.'s appointments but still have one more surgery scheduled early part of next year. I need to get back on here and check in on everyone. You all were God-sends for me. Hope everyone is doing great. will be checking back soon! Make sure you''re still playing hard and getting dirty.
