First off I would like to thank Tony Gasper for writing me and inviting me to the forums.
My name is Kelly and I took a fall at Hatfield-McCoy on May 2nd.
I was goin around 40-45 on a straight away right after it rained so the trail was a little slick, nothing too bad though.
I wheelied over a puddle as I always do and when I came down the front end started to wash off towards the right, I knew what was about to come so I let the bike go and jumped/fell for the left side.
Long story shortened......I thought I would never stop sliding/tumbling and hearing the bike in back of me crashing and such.
So in a nut shell after inventory of my body I noticed a good slice...er...multiple lacerations in/on my knee.
Emergency room was the next move after riding back to the trail head.
After all this I get home back to Mass. on Saturday and see an Orthopedic on Wednesday and he says "I gotta go back in there and open you up"
Which ended up being surgery and he also said I tore my quadrecept muscle...all this while getting an infection cleaned out.
So I stayed in the hospital till tuesdsay.....monday he went in to Orthoscopically go under the knee to make sure it was clean as well.
So, here I am not only with my knee back to recovery(stiches out this wednesday) I also BANGED up my shoulder real good as it's hard to lift up my arm with out alot of pain.
Well, I hope some of you can help in your experiances to better myself in recovery and we'll all ride again.
BTW, since being a youngster till now after bmx-ing and dirt riding all my life, I should count my blessings because this was the worst I have ever been hurt...er. DOWN.
Thank you,

Kelly

Kelly - sounds like a nice crash! I hope you're doing a bit better by now. If you have any questions about rehabbing from those injuries you might try asking the MXDoctor or RacerX VT in the forum here - they probably have the best handle on it. Good luck and Welcome to RiderDown! :thumb

Thank you Tatonka.
Knee is getting better.
My shoulder is another story.
I'm gonna do PT on it for Tearing of the articular and bursal surfaces of the supraspinatus tendon.
Then the labral tear.
BTW, I saw Tony today at Southwick, good to see you.

So in retrospect, I'm doing better than some.
Thank you all,

Kelly

Kelly - good luck with PT on that shoulder, it'll probably not feel like you're making any progress at all until one day you'll realize that, hmmm... it hasn't bothered me lately! :thumb

Take care!
