He was at track practice for an upcoming race that weekend he took a fall and due to the flagger or should I say lack of flagger he was hit by two other bikes that did not know he was down. He took a direct hit to google area of helmet (bascular skull fracture, broken nose, broken eye socket, 2 inch gash over eye) other bike hit leg and broke lower tibula and fibula in half (plate & 8 screws) also broken wrist. He was flown to hospital and is now a month into recovery. We are very lucky. Thank god that both other riders were okay. This could have been worst. Thank you for asking it has been a long road still many dr appointments and healing but he can't wait to get back.

Charlotte - welcome to RiderDown, we're glad that you found us but bummed to hear about the crash that brought you here. It infuriates me that so many of these types of crashes could be prevented if the proper precautions were taken (in this case - a flagger)! It sounds like a pretty nasty accident. Glad to hear that your son is doing well & that the other riders were OK. Keep us posted!

Thank you for your concern and thoughts. What you and others of Rider Down are doing for riders and their families is beyond words. As for the accident I agree it could have definitly been avoided. The worst part is after everything we found out that 4 other riders were taken out in ambulance the same night after Bryon. The track just does not seem to get it. As in life things happen for a reason and I am now starting to look at getting involved with Rider Down as a volunteer and also with Safety concerns & tracks making sure they are doing all they can to make sure all riders are safe. Again, thank you so very much

Your in my thoughts -

Tracks have become more dangerous - I keep hearing about these blinds spots and poor flagging. We need help fix these problems at our local tracks.

John,
Thanks your also in our thoughts. I think that some tracks are just out for the money. That night after my son was airlifted and track was cleared of emt's they started back up like nothing happened. They had to many riders on track and not enough flaggers. The worst part if they just asked parents to volunteer due to a lack of flaggers most of us would not hesitate. So far what I have noticed some tracks will do just that and others well lets just go back to the money. Not sure how to push this issue a little further but am not giving up. Safety is most important in this sport.

Charlotte - I'm sorry to hear about your son's accident - especially that it could have been prevented. Unfortunately, this is a story we too often hear. We will all be thinking of Bryon and wishing him a thorough and speedy recovery.
