Tim - do you have tips or a boot camp type program you can suggest for getting in shape for longer rides? Something perhaps more like a BITD or Baja type endurance ride. If you can help point someone who has gotten comfortable in a slothlike existence over the years prepare it would be appreciated! :cool

Tatonka there are several routines on the VT website that you could follow. There are pre-season, in-season, and post-season workouts. Depending on your current fitness level will determine where you start and what routines to follow. If you have been out of the gym for a while and just want to get back in shape, start with the off-season workouts for 6 to 8 weeks. The articles contain suggestions for schedules and such. The off-season workouts focus on strength training and building a base for the more intense pre-season workouts. Transition into the pre-season with some off-season routines sprinkled in to maintain strength. I really like a few of the routines in the in-season articles and use them alot in the pre-season. If you feel like you need to stretch things out a bit for the longer races, follow these articles as written and then add some longer runs/bike rides/rowing/etc. in on days that you are scheduled to ride (assuming you don't ride that day). For workouts that call for intervals, simply extend the interval rest periods. For instance you may run at a comfortable pace for 5minute, sprint for 1 minutes, run comfortably for 5 minutes, sprint for 1 minute, etc., etc. for 90 minutes. Verses shorter races I may prescribe a 3 off 1 on pace for 1 hour. Please let me know if you need any further advice and good luck with your training. Thanks!

Thanks Tim, I need to start out with the off-season workouts and combine a lot of stretching and ibuprofen into the mix so that I can work through the inevitable soreness and still function!

Well a lot has been happening over at Virtual Trainer (http://www.racerxvt.com)that I would like to share with you all. First, I would like to introduce you to a new advertiser, the TRX Suspension Trainer (http://www.fitnessanywhere.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=SFNT&Store_Code=000-94127&AFFIL=5408P0U2). No need to hard sell you on this product. Take a look at their website and you will see why I am am convinced this is one of the best products on the market for all types of training, not just motocross. I even spotted a TRX in James Stewart's private gym at his house in Florida.

Speaking of James, I was invited to spend a few days with him and his trainer Aldon Baker at James' house in Florida just before Christmas. It was nice getting to know the Champ (http://www.racerxvt.com/virtual_trainer/interview_james_stewart.html)a little outside of the racetrack. I started a new Podcast feature on Virtual Trainer and you can listen to all of my interviews uncut and in the riders own words. I have also interviewed Joe Gibs Racing's Josh Grant (http://www.racerxvt.com/virtual_trainer/interview_josh_grant.html)and WMA Champion Ashley Fiolek (http://www.racerxvt.com/virtual_trainer/interview_ashley_fiolek.html). Subscribe to the podcast here (itpc://www.racerxvt.com/podcastgen1.1/feed.xml).

Concept2 (http://www.concept2.com/us/communities/motor_sports/default.asp?utm_source=racerx&utm_medium=banner&utm_content=trainlikethepros&utm_campaign=moto) has been plowing through the motocross/action sports market, selling well over 200 hundred rowers to riders, snowboarders, FMX guys and just about everyone else. They are even being featured on the TV show, The Biggest Loser and Yao Ming's (NBA Superstar) trainer called the Concept2 offices the other day looking to get a specially made rower for the 7'8" basketball player.

Rob Hill of Man and Machine (http://www.manandmachine.com) (makers of the TransformX moto endurance training system) was fully endorsed by James Stewart last month. Check out Rob's site for some very cool pics of James training with the device.

Coach Seiji and resident Dietician, Kim Wathen have been busy contributing articles and monitoring the forum (http://www.racerxvt.com/phpBB/index.php). Speaking of the forum, if you cannot find what you are looking for on the Rider Down Forum, be sure and click on over to the Virtual Trainer Expert forum where your question will be answered by an expert in the industry...not Billy Bob from Kansas (sorry Billy Bob!).

In September, Coach Seiji and Virtual Trainer started a project where we are giving our training services to one lucky rider. We are calling it "The Daniel Corbin Project" and you can follow along as Daniel Blogs (http://www.racerxonline.com/blog/trainer-talk/)about his experience. Our goal is to put Daniel on the podium this year at Loretta Lynn's.

Aldon Baker (James' trainer) has been busy contributing articles on How to Practice Motocross (http://www.racerxvt.com/virtual_trainer/aldon_how_to_practice_motocross.html), how he Rehabbed James' ACL (http://www.racerxvt.com/virtual_trainer/aldon_knee_acl.html), and reveals his secret weapon (http://www.racerxvt.com/virtual_trainer/aldon_exclusive_nutrition.html)when it come to nutrition.

Many more things are going on and there is a ton of stuff in the pipeline, so surf on over to Virtual Trainer and get your training fix. Your lease is up on being out of shape so put down the twinkie and let's get started (this means you Bruce!)
