RiderDown Foundation Phone Fund
We are currently seeking National Regional Coordinators to help in the implementation of this program. If this is something that you feel you can help do, please contact us at amy@riderdown.org for more information.
For Immediate Release:
Phone Fund Fund-Raising Program
TAKE THAT OLD CELL PHONE, DIGITAL CAMERA, PDA AND LAPTOP OUT OF
RETIREMENT AND PUT IT TO WORK!
Please donate your used cell phones, digital cameras, PDA's and laptops
to help raise much needed funds for RiderDown Foundation. RiderDown Foundation is collecting used cell phones, digital cameras, PDA's and laptops for the purpose of helping riders that have been injured while off-road riding and their families. We will receive a monetary donation for each piece that we collect during this Fund-Raising Program.
According to a new study by environmental research group Inform, people
in the US will soon be getting rid of about 130 million cell phones each
year. "That's about 65,000 tons of cell phones and ultimately they are
thrown away," says Joanna Underwood, spokesperson for Inform. Cell
phones, digital cameras, PDA's and laptops contain toxic materials such
as arsenic, lead and zinc.
Electronics donated through the Phone Fund Program, however, are given
new life. Your throw-away phones, digital cameras, PDA's and laptops are
desirable to people living in developing nations. Phone Fund makes your
unused technology available to those who can use it, while keeping it
out of the landfill. Those items that cannot be resold are recycled for
their component parts according to EPA standards.
"We're very excited about this program", says Art Jurado ? Vice President of RiderDown Foundation "This recycling program not only benefits RiderDown Foundation but assists in preserving the environment and bringing communications to people who could not otherwise afford it."
All cell phones, digital cameras, PDA's and laptops are accepted. You
may attach the battery or charger if you have them.

What a great idea for those old, outdated generation one cell phones, PDA's, and of course, that old Brick of a laptop. As well as that old 1mega pixel digital camera. Make room for all your new devices. I have a few of all the above that I will be sending to the RiderDown Phone Fund.
Ideas to help collect these old devices:
- Your own old electronics gear box
- Your neighbors old electronics gear box
- Familer members and friends
- At work, all those old phones being upgraded. Ask if you can have them. Since it is for a GREAT Cause.
- No Bites from trying to sell it on Ebay? Send it in
Add to the list and spread the word.

This campaign is truly a win/win/win for everybody! The opportunities for collection are limitless.
John - I know there's a stash of old motorola flip phones around here in a drawer somewhere (I'm searching) and a Dell Latitude laptop. I don't know if it's a match but it's close!!
Anyone else??

Ok, so I have 3 phones ready to go and was thinking, last weekend there was a bit of anger, I guess i could call it, and my husband litterally smashed our two cell phones....of course we had to get new ones--but can we send the pieces of the old phones too (flip phones broken in half type thing)?
I don'thave a scale at home (hate those things) :) So I have to take it to work to weigh it and will be sending them out!

Keep those phones & electronics coming! So far we've raised over $200 to help fund programs assisting injured riders - all by collecting stuff that's just taking up space in your house or on it's way to the landfill.
Thanks for the help!
next tel phones/radios/chargers
Do you take those? i have like 6.

I've got an ancient computer and some other stuff to send in. I was trying to figure out what in the heck I was going to do with it, can't think of a better thing than help out Rider Down.
Wait, will they take a full computer?
I've got some smaller stuff to send, too.

Sorry - this company (PhoneFund) doesn't take the full desktop computer, which is too bad because I have a couple of those old boat anchors here too!
We can accept laptops, pda's, digital cameras & cell phones though. Send 'em on in! Every little bit helps.....!=!

Are you still taking old cell phones? Should we send the chargers? And give me an address or I could just give a few when we go to GMB...Maybe we should make a post on this over at allthingsmoto and see if anyone else wants to bring you a bunch of old cell phones,etc.... Just a thought...Might need another suit case :-)

Taken from the PhoneFund website -
"Did you know that cell phones contain toxic materials such as arsenic, lead and zinc? Right now there are countless millions of cell phones just sitting around homes in the US and many end up polluting the landfill. Phones donated through the Phone Fund program are given new life and those that can't be refurbished are recycled according to EPA Standards. Phone Fund makes your unused cell phones available to those who can use them, while keeping them out of the landfill."
Gee - do you know anyone getting a new phone, camera or laptop for the holiday? What are they (or you!) doing with the old stuff? Help an injured rider - give your old junk through this effort!
