I'm a friend and co-worker of Kim Thompson's Mom, Sandy.

Kim was riding with family in the Mojave about 3 weeks ago. Kim went down hard and sustained a serious head injury. She was medivaced to Kern County Hospital where she still is critical. She had part of her skull removed to allow for brain swelling, the part is still removed and we are hoping it will be re-attached sometime next week. How much damage is still to be determined. She can speak some and knows whom some of the family are. She is pretty heavily sedated for pain. She has been going through Pneumonia and some staff infections, some of the normal problems with being down for three weeks. This week she dealt with a collapsed lung. She is a fighter and being so she also pulled out her feeding tube out of her stomach, so she had another surgery on Wednesday to put the feeding tube back in. They had to leave the incision open irrigate the abdomen to clear out anything that got in there from the tube being yanked out. Kim is 23 years old and a single mom with a two year old daughter.

Kim and her daughter were living with her mom Sandy until Kim finished college. Sandy is very hard working divorced mother. Sandy is working two jobs trying to get ahead and provide for her family. They call Sonora, CA home so this is quite a struggle Sandy trying to stay with her daughter in the hospital in Bakersfield and keep house in Sonora. It looks like rehab. will be in Fresno which is still a 3 hour drive.

Please pass on your prayers for Kim's quick recovery.

Hi All,

I talked with Sandy this morning. Kim sat up while the nurse was changing the dressings on her abdomen as she said "You guys are begining to piss me off". It looks like her mind is there. The only set back, the antibiotics are begining to damage the liver. They have backed off the dosage and hopefully the liver can recover. They still haven't told Sandy when they can put skull piece back in.

Thanks for all the support,

Bryan

Kim had her surgery to put in the bone flap(part of the skull that was removed)last night. She came through it just fine and recognized her mom and aunt in the recovery room. She has a few minor localized infections but nothing serious. Her liver is fine and so are her kidneys. After they backed off the antibiotics everything returned to normal.

Hopefully, in a week or so she can go to Rehab. and get back on her feet again.

Thanks you all for the support,

Bryan
