Jay is a 48 year old Vet Rider and 35-year member of the Waco Eagles Motorcycle club. He was injured Wednesday Feb 7th at the Waco motocross track when he and his brother in law collided after the two landed a jump. The brother in law sustained minor injuries, mainly bumps and bruises, but Jay didn't fair as well.
Jay was admitted to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center where he remains in ICU for the past week. His injuries include 8 shattered ribs in his left back, a punctured lung, bruised and bleeding spleen, damaged kidney, pancreas, broken left shoulder blade & collar bone. News this Tuesday was that his spleen has stopped bleeding. The doctors have performed a tracheotomy and Jay continues to remain heavily sedated. Family members state that Jay will be transported to either Houston or Fort Worth within the next few weeks as soon as he is stable enough to be moved. He does have short-term disability and medical insurance however he does not receive pay unless he is at work. I know this will be financially devastating to Jay and his family. The Waco Eagles Motorcycle Club will be helping the family as much as possible but I know that our resources will be short lived. I intend to create an account for anyone that knows Jay or is willing to assist. I will update with more information later. For now a good old prayer would come in handy.

Thoughts and prayers from CO for Jay and his family - that's a lot of internal damage from that crash! Thanks for letting us know about Jay & please let him know that we are pulling for him and for a quick recovery. We do have a number of volunteers in the Houston area (as Char said) so please let us know if there is anything that we can help with.

It's been 14 days since Jay was admitted in to the SICU. I got word late last night that he was to be transported to Austin this morning so the family thought it okay to allow some visitors before he was moved. He was awake and pretty alert when I got there but still has the tracheotomy tube in and a lot of trouble breathing. Apparently the center they are moving him to is better equipped to handle his situation to help him off the ventilator and prevent the risk of infections. After his organs heal and the risk of infection is reduced they will begin to see what steps they are going to take to repair his ribcage.
Thanks to all the kind words and I'll sure pass them along to Jay. He's not out of the woods yet but he is a fighter and working hard to make a recovery. I'll update more as I find out.
