If you haven't already watched this video, you need to. David Bailey has my attention that's for sure.

A few weeks ago I entered my son in the drawing to win one of these braces. They are giving 100 of them away free. After watching this video, I don't think I can wait.

What really bothers me the most is the fact that a neck brace should be mandatory ! Why isn't there a rule enforcing it ?

My son got the 661 core-saver for x-mas. His old chest protector had the neck roll attached to it. After watching that video I realized he is not wearing any neck protection right now.

So please, for the love of your child, husband , boyfriend, brother, father, uncle, aunt , cousin or your niece support this life saving device and the people behind it.

Get on the dance floor !

Everyone of us needs to stop being in denial. Anyone of us could be the next seriously injured rider.

Please, I ask that you tell anyone who will listen about this product.

Great post Angie and You are 100% right it is a big denial factor no one wants to talk about it or face the fact that this could happen to them or their love one. I have heard many times people did not want to come to this site because they thought it would be depressing or some how jinx them. You talk about putting your head in the sand.

I know the accident I just had could have been life threathening or at least far worse than what it was if I wasn't wearing all my gear and especially the big neck roll. I plan on buying a Leatt Brace for my son and I before we ride again.

To David Bailey, thank you for taking this big step and putting your reputation on the line for others. You never cease to amaze me with the courage you show everyday. God Bless!!

I watched this video last night and was going to post it but Angie beat me to it. Thanks to David Bailey for having the balls (sorry) to make this statement. I know how he feels about how it might affect the racing community, but if it just saves one rider, it's worth it. I can tell you from experience that any discomfort from wearing the unit pales in comparison to the pain and struggle of a spinal cord injury.
As a father of a racer who has a spinal injury, it's much easier to deal with knowing the racing community is making a real effort to make the sport safer. I love the RiderDown site and am thankful for everything that they do, but it's very hard for me to read about one rider after another ending up in a wheelchair. Especially knowing that many of these injuries can be avoided with the proper gear. Thanks for posting this Angie.
To David: You were a hero to me when you raced, now you are a hero for all time! God Bless You.

as a motocrosser and a physical therapist, i am very excited about this brace!! i have been on a list to receive one as soon as leatt began shipping them. now that this device is available EVERYONE who rides motorcycles should be wearing one- especially competitve motorcyclists. dont give in to the "it wont happen to me" syndrome. dont be foolish. ride smooth and ride smart.

I completely agree that a neck brace should be mandatory. In fact, there is a track owner in Colorado who is now considering making neck braces mandatory for riding his track. I think that would be fantastic, and such a huge step in the right direction!

I watched the video and has me thinking that I need (MUST) upgrade to one of these braces.

Does anyone have any information about the Ryan Sipes crash that David refered to?

Also have you seen this footage from the Dakar Rally.

Marc Coma (wearing a Leatt Brace) was leading the Dakar Rally when this happened...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJPjCTB35h4

Later found out that he hit headfirst into a tree. He is moving his neck around fine right after impact.

After he was released from the hospital he thanked the poeple at Leatt for saving his life. This seems to be for real.

Lots of other riders in the video wearing the brace too.

Awsome!! Coma's situation after the crash is much better than what my son had to endure after his crash without the brace... six broken vertebrae,
T3-T8 with a burst fracture at T6. He also had a direct impact to his head but the shock traveled down the spine and the bones could not absorb it without breaking. It looks as though when a head impact occurs, the part of the shock is tranferred from the helmet to the Leatt device then to the shoulders reducing the shock to the spine.
The next step is a device that covers the spine down to the waist area. I will have a party when both devices are being used!

I had been considering the Leatt brace for some time now to replace my regularly used EVS collar. I’ve had a couple good crashes over the past couple years and honestly believe the EVS collar helped reduce the severity of my injuries. So even if you don’t get the Leatt, get something to protect yourself WHEN (not if) you crash or don’t ride the bike at all.

Honestly, the only two things that had been causing me to procrastinate with the Leatt Brace were the price vs. available funds and the perceived level of restricted head movement. However, after watching the Bailey video sometime last week and thinking about all the other great riders; like McGrath, Fonseca, and even some great weekend warriors I’ve known that have sustained serious injuries or just close calls, I felt I could no longer wait since I am definitely not as good a rider as those guys. I also read several reviews from other riders that say the Leatt device is fairly comfortable so I was able to throw out this excuse. Therefore, I am proud to say that I passed on a new set of riding apparel and new boots that I had been wanting this year and my Leatt is on the way. I sincerely hope others do the same.

I don’t know about others that have watched the Bailey video, but I definitely felt his passion and enormous level of sincerity regarding safety. If the great riders can have accidents and get seriously hurt, it is definitely not out of the question for me or any other amateur rider so I decided to stop rolling the dice every time I throw a leg over my bike?

Kudos to Leatt for taking an interest in improving the safety in our great sport and recreational activity and I definitely give a thumbs up to all the riders, like Bailey, and business leaders in the industry that are stepping up to the plate and promoting safety. I now hope some of the other great riders and business leaders of today, that are still on the sidelines, heard the words of Bailey and start setting the right example regarding safety.

As always, kudos to RiderDown.org and all its members for making a difference. Keep up the good work.

I have been waiting and hoping that words would come to help me express my feelings about this video, instead I keep reading the comments posted on some of the other forums and am just dumbfounded by some people's reactions. I'll keep my thoughts for those people private for now.

David - Thank you, I know that making that video & speaking out like you did was difficult and I respect you all the more for doing it. Your points were all well taken and needed to be made. The message needs to be repeated & amplified. We should all take a stand on this issue and not let the inevitable political & financial issues take anything away from the fact that there are currently too many severe injuries happening in our sport.

We all need to get on the Dance floor & move to the beat of this one. Are you too cool to dance? There are many, many things that can be done to promote riding and each one of them starts with you. Take your pick and make a stand.

OK, i know im behind the times, but i just saw that video a couple weeks ago. I had a pretty good get off a few monts ago, a few broken things.I was starting to feel the need to buy some replacement gear to try and start riding again because all my gear was either cut off or ripped off due to this mishap.I know that our body parts have price limit on protection but, Helmet close to $400 goggles $130 bought a couple pair w/ case on sale. Went to buy some pants and jersey $200 but the wife found my reciept for the helmet,:yikes but she under stands. Now i was looking for a neck brace but have not found one to fit the gobbler. So me and some friends went on a equipment try on trip to chapparal. We live in the imperial valley and lately try to keep the local small shops with buisnesses cash flow.We did buy some things for thier troubles of us over grown kids running around. Now my whole reason for rattleing on.I had a good friend have a accident last weekend. She ended up with a broken neck. She will be ok after a long week of surgery. Now while at chapparal i tried on the Alpinestar neck brace, no gobbler rub oh boy i need this thing.Looked at the price tag and :yikes all most $700.I don't expect things for free but dang. I also don't want to ride again with out one nowthat i found one that fits. What can we do to help people to afford these things things are tight right now.I can try and save money maybe sale a kidney. Im fortunate to have a job right now and decent med insurance and even i have a problem affording one of these things.Well heres the thing i rolled the dice last time i came up lucky ,I can see touch and feel my family & friends. I don't want to try again. Sorry for rambleing but i just need to vent.. Yes im having riding withdraws..
