Order your Elmer Symons commemorative Stickers and make donations Here! (http://www.riderdown.org/forum/index.php?page=Elmer). All proceeds goto Elmers family.
In cooperation with RiderDown.org, I am putting together a benefit ride for Elmers family. There are many things going on right now to try and help the family deal with the financial ends of what has transpired with the passing of Elmer. The costs which have been incurred are not minimal and there are efforts going across the web and the world to aid the family of the fallen star. All benefits from the ride will be passed on to the rider down foundation. They will be setting up an Elmer Symons fund, can provide tax documents for donation write offs and will be handling the final transfers, of all moneys received, to the family of Elmer.
http://www.riderdown.org/images/elmee.jpg
If you would like to aid the family of one of our greatest personalities, have a great time with good folks, get some excellent riding in and watch an Arkansas fool try to tackle some of the harder obstacles at Muenster, in honor of Elmer, then you should plan to attend the Elmer Symons benefit ride at Red River Motorcycle Trails, January 26-28, 2007. I will be providing a keg of beer for those that wish to partake of vast quantities of adult beverages. 2 kegs if enough people show up. 21 and over only on the keg. I have spoken with Bruce at RiderDown, 100% of all donations will goto the Symons fund. If so desired, Bruce will also be able to provide papers for tax write offs on any donations. Please come out and show your support for an outstanding individual. Dont let cold weather or rain scare you. It wouldnt scare Elmer! Hardcore baby! Lets get together, have a great time, help out some wonderful people in need and remember a fantatstic human being.
To anyone that would like to help in making this event possible, I would appreciate any and all efforts. Guides will be needed. I will be calling Red River to make all arrangements. If you plan on attending please leave a reply here or send me a pm. I hope to see you all there!
Any checks should be made payable to the RiderDown Foundation and in the memo section please note Elmer. Thank you!
If you attend this ride, make certain to tell Rebecca, when you sign in, that you are there for the Elmer Symons Benefit ride. She will be donating $5 of every $10 entry fee that is paid by people that are attending this ride. She has also provided 3 full days use of the pavilion free of charge. Also, if you plan on arriving
on Friday, you will need to contact Rebecca at 940-995-2903 to get the gate code. Be sure to mention this event.
I will be there around 12:00 noon on the 26th no matter the conditions.
I am working on trying to gather up some prizes to raffle off. My local shop, Kawasaki Sportscenter has already offered to ste up to the plate and give some things for the raffle. I will be trying to contact other vendors to add more prizes. Every cent will goto the RiderDown foundation for the Elmer Symons fund.
RiderDown still has their phone fund raiser going on so if you have ANY old phones, bring them to the ride, drop them in the box and help an injured rider!
For easy donations to the Symons fund, scroll down and see post by "RiderDown"

Red River Motorcycle Trails, Inc.

Coming from Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas Area...
RRMT, Inc. is about an hour and a half north of the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Coming from that area, you will want to go north on I-35 to Gainesville. When you get to Gainesville, you will exit Highway 82 and go west towards Wichita Falls. You will go about thirteen miles through the towns of Lindsay and Muenster. Upon arriving in Muenster, you will turn right onto Main Street at the only stop light on Highway 82 in Muenster. You will then head north about one mile when you will come to the end of the road, keep left. You are now on FM Road 373 and traveling west. Follow this road for approximately fourteen miles to Bulcher. Considering the population of Bulcher is minimal, the only thing that people will see on their way to RRMT, Inc. will be the wide open country side, Turtle Hill Golf Course, and an old dilapidated school building from the early 1900s. Once you pass the school, the local road turns into a new paved state highway. If you look to the right, you will see the Red Bull Barn (made famous from the 2006 Red Bull Last Man Standing Race). From there on, it is about two miles to the gate. Red River Motorcycle Trails, Inc. will be located on the right and you cannot miss it.
Coming from Wichita Falls, Texas Area...
RRMT, Inc. is about an hour east of the Wichita Falls area. Travel east from Wichita Falls on Highway 82 until you reach Saint Jo. Then turn northeast on FM 2382 for approximately ten miles. After coming to a fork in the road, turn left onto FM Road 373 and stay on this new paved state highway for approximately two miles and then you will see the park entrance on your right.
Coming from Lawton, Oklahoma Area...
Take Highway 7 East to Duncan. In Duncan, take Highway 81 South to Ryan. In Ryan, take Highway 32 East to 89/32 Spur. Turn right to follow 89 South. You will take 89 South to the T Intersection. Then turn left to follow 677 South. Take 677 South to the 677/373 Y Intersection. Follow 373 to the left.
Coming from Northern Oklahoma...
Tired of driving all the way down I-35 to Gainesville, Texas and then turning back West on Highway 82? Try this new route...saves time and is more scenic. When you get to Marietta, Oklahoma, take Highway 32 East to Courtney, Oklahoma. Then take Highway 89 across Taovayas Indian Bridge (that goes across the Red River). Once across the bridge, get on 677 and go East. Then when 677 intersects with 373, get on 373 and go East. Follow 373 for approximately 5 miles (give or take). The park will be on your left.

Bruce...It is completely my honor to be able to do anything and everything I can for the family during these terrible times. I learned a great deal from Elmer about how to live, ride, enjoy every second and much more. Its the least I can do for him. If there is anything else that I can do, dont hesitate to let me know!

The older I get the smaller the world of offroad motorcycling seems to become.
The loss of MiniRocketman in December of 05 brought me to RiderDown and it is the one Forum that I frequent the least. I wish no one ever had to post here!
Having said that please know that this forum has helped me personally to keep going and know that people really do care.
I know in my heart that Steve Jr would want me to keep riding and in his memory that is what I've been doing as often as possible.
I'm a little slow in posting here because I was on a 9 day D/S ride in Mexico when Elmer's accident occurred.
I met Elmer last September in Caliente, Nevada, at the Nevada Rallye Experience, we talked briefly but it was easy to tell his passion for the sport was immense.
He was greatly respected by Scott Harden, the other privateers and the Dakar team riders that were there.
There are no words that can be used to ease the pain of a loss like this.
Our family tries to take comfort from knowing that when a rider is lost pursuing their passion they were living their life to the fullest, realizing their dreams.
I have a TMTC board meeting in Gilmer TX the weekend of the benefit but if time permits I'll come by.
Thanks to all from TWTEX.COM and all the other Forums for being so proactive.
Ride on Elmer and show MiniRocketman how to go that fast standing up all the time.
We'll all see you both later.

Steve - your words and presence here means a lot, thank you again for sharing your experience and compassion. We are here to provide that voice for the dirt biking community and say "we care and we're here for you".
We understand the nature of this forum is not always what people want to focus on but we do hope that it can occasionally provide what they need.
Yes, we'll see you all later....ride on.

Steve, thank you for your reply and kind words. I am very sorry for the loss that you suffered in 05. I know even to this day it must be tough. I offer you my condolences. Your words mean alot and are truelly heartfelt, Im certain. Thank you for your continued supprt of RiderDown and I hope to meet you at the ride.
As Elmer would say....keep it on one wheel.

Between the great pictures of Elmer and all the great things that have been said by so many that new Elmer, he must have been a great guy. I never had a chance to meet Elmer even though our paths had crossed recently at both the Vegas to Reno Race and Last Man Standing. I wish I could have got to know him.
I am currently on the mend from knee surgery so I will not be able to make the Elmer Symons Benefit Ride, but the Symons family has been and will continue to be in my heart and prayers.

God speed Elmer.

Chris,
I want to make an additional offer for the pen I will donate. I will also donate a pen to be built from a design by the winner. This will truely produce a one of a kind pen that is customized for the winner. There will be a few guidelines I will discuss with the winner and let them decide the route this pen will take.
Some basic guidelines would be it has to be from normal stock. Pens made from rattlesnake, python, cobra, other skins, antlers, horn, ivory or rare woods will have a material cost fee and would be subject to availability from my suppliers.

Tony, you are really stepping up in many departments to help make this event happen. I cant say how much I appreciate it, enough. The community has really put in a great effort for this event. Thank you for furthering your donations. You had already gone far above and beyond...
I will be busy most of the day today trying to take care of some of the many many other things that I have to do before the trip down from Arkansas. I will try my hardest to get more pictures up this evening. Anyone know of some server space that I could mass upload about 100 pics too? The one at a time gig at KTMtalk is going to take a while.

New photos of other team members James Embro, Chris Jones, and Steve LaRoza in the Photo Album page too.
Thanks for everybody's support and assistance in this difficult time.

For a little info from the Texas ride, check out this ride report, Two Wheeled Texans (http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15229)
We had a blast riding and just visiting with the others that were able to attend. I also would like to say !=! to all that donated items for the raffle and all the other items we had available...............chili, cookies, chili, hot chocolate, chili, brauts, chili, Texas Table Wine (Ice Tea), chili, nachos, chili, keg of suds, chili, chips and some really good.......(bet you thought I was going to say chili again) folks to spend the weekend with. Oh and by the way we also had a big pot of chili available for all that wanted some. Also can't leave out the folks at RRMT, they provided the pravillion and donated half the entry fee back to the benefit.
:Powerslide: I must also say that Chris !-! did one bang up job on getting it all to come together. :awesome:

Whoa....Im bad bad bad.....We had a total of 54 people sign in for the event. That gave us a total donation of $285 from Rebecca at RRMT, we raised right around $1400 for the raffle and Steve Henson made a donation of $1000 bringing our total to right around $2700 for the benefit, I may be off slightly. I think Bruce has the exact numbers. Not a bad sum at all but as you all know we are still working on raising more funds through donations and Ebay auctions consisting of Various Pro Riders Autographed gear. As of right now we have OFFICIAL Rider Jerseys from Mike Lafferty, Steve Leivan, Charlie Mullins, Jason Raines and an OFFICIAL set of Riding pants signed by Randy Hawkins. None of these items are replicas. They are all the riders own gear autographed by them. Updates will be posted when the items hit Ebay. I am also waiting on a Jersey from Cole Kirkpatrick and Guy Cooper. A few others are also in the works.
I think everyone had a great time at the Benefit ride. I know I certainly did. Saturday was a bit chaotic out on the trails as the groups were rather large. I will correct that situation sooner if it ever arises again. It was nice to meet those that I hadnt met before and to see all of my friends again.
Thanks to everyone that sponsored the event, those that came out to support the event and everyone that helped in making the event possibl;e through volunteering your time to assist me.
I will have my full ride report finished soon and will add a link to it here.

Char we did have a great turnout. As I expected, everyone that I met there was a great person. I hope everyone had as much fun as I did. There were a few times when I looked up, saw someone and for just a split second, I thought it was Elmer. JGas and Bryan Henson said they experienced the same thing on several occassions as well. All in all, I think it went very well and look forward to riding with everyone again in the future as well as continuing to meet more great folks!
