Everyone else in my family has a chest protector. I have not been able to find one that fits. I am a mother and have a larger chest. Every time I try them on I have a huge gap everywhere else if I find one that fits around my bust. I have seen the new ladies ones but even the larger ones still leave a wide gap around my rib cage and about three inches between my stomach and the plate. Is it better to have one that doesnt fit than none at all? Where do I find big mama gear?

Fox makes gear for lady's you may want to check out the wesite and or go to a dealership that has Lady Fox gear and try it on.
I think as time goes on and the Leades in this sport will start realizing how much of a market they are missing by not making gear for gender. This is one of the biggest complaints my daughter has, she hates the chest protector she has.

I have a friend with the same issue...I don't think she's found a chest protector yet that works. If the women's chest protectors won't work, have you tried the men's chest protector made by Acerbis? I know they make one for larger men and while it may not be ideal, I honestly believe it would be better than nothing.

Acerbis makes a line of chest protectors especially for women. Here's on of them:
LADY PROFILE
Rider Height: 5'2"-6'0" / 160-185cm
Rider Weight: 105-180lbs / 45-80kg
This roost deflector is designed to fit the shape of a woman’s body. Compared to men’s models, this product has smaller dimensions and is lighter in weight, while still allowing freedom of movement. The Lady Profile assures comfort and protection.
• Hypoallergenic Padding
• Adjustable elastic straps
• Total weight: 1.8 lbs

Hockey, Lacross and Fencing also have their own style of chest protectors that make work for you.

Momma - I would definitely say that it's better to have one on, even if it's not a perfect fit than to not wear one at all. It seems to me that the product manufacturers have been really late getting into the women's accessory market but they are catching up quick. Let us know what you find, I would imagine there is more to choose from all the time.

You may want to look into one of the designs from 661. Look at the under the jersey models. Since they are not "hard" they would conform easier to different body shapes. They provide great protection in the front and have an articulated spine guard in the back. Protecting the spine is crucial!

Ditto !!!!
I just bought my son the 661 Coresaver. He loves it. I agree that this one would mostlikely fit a woman the best.

While I would agree that the under the jersey protectors can work well for some riders in some conditions there are other types of riding conditions that I would MUCH rather have the "hard" plastic shell surrounding me and protecting me from. Ie; jagged rocks, trees, etc.. Just my .02 cents though, but I do definitely agree with the spine coverage...

The coresavor has plates that are inside the foam. Same material that the spine guard is made of. You get rib protection that most chest protectors don't offer.

I'm pretty sure Acerbis is the only brand that has a line specifically for ladies at this point. The only other thing I can think of is the 661 brand that has already been mentioned. I'm not sure if a men's XL would work for you or not but you could try one on at a dealer. Here's a link.

You can find a dealer on this site as well. I tried to include the link but they are "updating". Just look for the "Dealer Finder" link across the top.
