Folks:
The case of Dalton Johnson was brought to my attention today. He is a 13 year old boy from North Carolina. He was at a practice day November 26 when he came over a jump and was about to hit a downed rider. Nobody is quite sure what happened but he crashed hard and incurred a serious head injury and multiple broken bones. He has been in a coma since. He is just starting to come out of it, but he has a long way to go.
Take a minute, and say a prayer for Dalton and his family.

On Saturday, November 25, Dalton Johnson suffered serious injuries a Daniels Ridge Motocross. Dalton is 13 years old and rides a Yamaha 85 and the new Honda 150..
Here is a message from the Daniels Ridge Web site.

On Sunday Dec. 3rd Riders and spectators donated $402 which Daniels Ridge MX matched with $402 to help Daltons parents while not working and being able to be by Daltons side. Daniels Ridge will also take up donations at our Dec. 17th race. Everything is greatly appreciated.

Dalton is 13 years old and was practicing on his new Honda 150. Dalton is a very skilled rider and was riding his bike well. Daniels Ridge MX has a 100 foot table top with a blind landing. Dalton jumped this 100 foot table top perfectly as he had done many times before. On this occasion, however, there was a rider down at the landing. There was nothing Dalton could do to avoid the down bike.
Dalton received a serious head injury, a broken collar bone and broken bones in his hand. He was “life flighted” to N.C. Baptist Hospital and remained in a coma until this past week. One can now wake Dalton and he will stay awake and look at pictures but he has yet to speak. In addition, he can not move his left leg or left arm.
He now needs our help. Keep him in your prayers in hopes that the Dalton family will receive the best gift one can received – their son back healthy.
I am sure any support (cash, best wishes, etc. ) would be greatly appreciated.

Dalton and Family,
Please know that our prayers are with you during this difficult time. Praise God that he has awoken from his coma. I know how difficult and financially draining it can be to leave your jobs to stay by his side. My son suffered a spinal cord injury in June and we lived in Pittsburgh for three months while he recovered.
Faith and the power of prayer are truly amazing! We will all keep Dalton and family in our prayers. God bless you and please keep all of us at RiderDown posted on his progress.

Here's some encouraging news from Dalton Johnson's mom, Mia:
Hi, it is good to hear from you. Dalton continues to make progress. He is continuing his therapy 2 days a week, but now it is mainly cognitive. His physical abilities are coming along very well and he maintains a positive attitude. Dalton is determined to be back on a motorcycle some day.
Thank you so much for keeping in touch with us. It means a lot to have a racing community that cares so much.

It's been a while since we've gotten an update on Dalton - if anyone has some more current info, please post. I know Dalton is a huge Ricky Carmichael fan - he's got to be happy with RC's racing so far in the Outdoor MX season!

Here's an update from Dalton's mom:
I just want everyone involved with Rider Down to know how much we appreciate their prayers and support. Dalton continues to make progress and is doing very well. We are still going to therapy, but will be returning to school this fall. Dalton's long term goal is to be back on his motorcycle within the next year and half (pending orthopedic and neurology recommendations).

My name is Tanner. I am 15 years old. Dalton goes to my church, and I have watched his progress for 3 years now. He is now 16, and is a sophomore in high school. He has slowed down since the wreck. When I look into his eyes I see hope. He has come a long way and has a very long way to go. He is very active in the youth group at church. Him and I are good friends now. His grades are not doing as well as they were before the wreck, and since we are in the same grade, I want to help him. He has so much potential. I know that it was a miracle that he was saved from that wreck. He was meant to live. He has not fulfilled his destiny in life. I have yet to know what that is. He doesn't think about his future that much, and sometimes that hurts him. I remember seeing him on that Sunday on his first visit to church since the wreck. Everyone stood up and clapped for him. From the things he told me, I have noticed that he doesn't really have a best friend that will help him out and get him through this. He may have some friends at school, but high school can be very tough, especially someone's social life at high school. I want to be that best friend and help him out. Since the wreck, he really has no hobbies. I think that he needs something besides motocross to do and think about every day. Something for him to do that will make him want to do good in school. For me, that is music. I have been playing piano for 11 years, and I am willing to teach him if he wants to learn. Or, we could both take lessons. If he doesn't want to do music, I will stand beside him and help him have a hobby so he can look forward to the life ahead. If he does better in school, has a hobby, and dreams of that life of being successful, I will go to sleep every night knowing that I helped someone achieve their full potential in life. And I will stand beside him every day until that happens. I will protect him. He will also stand up for me. I see that he will do that. This isn't a one-way friendship, it's a two-way friendship. He doesn't tell me what to do, and I won't tell him what to do. We are there for each other. I will pray for him, as well as very many other people.
Dear God,
Dalton has had a lot of failure in his life; a lot of sadness. But he has a lot of hope. Dalton puts a smile on the face of lots of people. He has went through so much, but yet has so far to go. Because of you, God, he will live his life to his full potential. I know you will be there for him. May his past be forgotten, and his future no longer be dreamt. I believe in miracles, and that they are caused by You. God, I love You, and I am so glad You are part of Dalton Johnson's life. Amen.
