Hi everyone! My name is Jesse, and I need all your help and suggestions...
So, here it goes... My boyfriend, Mark Garvey, suffered from a broken back, at Lake Whitney of this year, in March, and is classifed as a t5 complete, (can't feel or move from his waist down.) Many months in rehab, trying all that he could, to gain back his strength, but the only thing he can do is wait it out. Over the past few weeks, many discussions between Mark and his dad.. or Mark and his friends and family... the discussion of designing and building up a bike for him, so that he is able to ride. Not sure if you may have seen or heard, but there is a man, Ricky James, who has built a bike, and rides, and is actually, really good. It's a designed bike, with a special seat, and poles that keep your legs from falling off... If it's the only way that Mark can ride, he wants to do it. There's just one problem... today, I had gotten off the phone with Mark's Dad, and we talked about how he, financially, can't afford to put together the bike all by himself.. with medical bills still to pay off. I've been trying to think of ways to raise money so that I'm able to see my boyfriend back out on the track, being happy, instead of having to sit behind the fence, and watch. We brainstormed how much the estimated cost of this bike would be, and it's around, about $10,000... Yes, I know, WOW. Mark is dedicated and determined to ride again, and even if he's not able to use his legs, this is what he wants to do. He's been racing motocross for about 13 years now... all in one second, of that day in March, it all came to a stop, just in one second, and he couldn't stop any of it. All those years of hard work and training.. he's not just going to give it up.
Please, I need help on finding a way to put this money together, to help Mark out. Yes, we all know there is consequences to this action of him riding again, but it's a risk that, he himself, wants to take.. He wants to be able to do what he loved doing, that's motocross. That is a REAL dedicated motocrosser, if you ask me.
If anyone could please help me out. I need all that I can get... suggestions on how to raise money, some donations... find it in your heart, help this boy out.

Send me a PM and I'll give you any information that I can.

Thank you all for your time,
and please help us out!

Jesse - welcome to the RiderDown Foundation, we are very glad you have found us. I'm very sorry to hear about Mark and his injuries, please first and foremost tell him that we care and want to help him and his family. RiderDown was started to help people just like Mark and his family with emotional support and in some cases financial assistance with medical expenses related to the injury. We need to hear from Mark's family, we have a form (available online - click on the "Injured, Need Help?" tab up at the top of the screen) that is designed for just this purpose.

We also have a private sub-forum that is accessible by password only for riders who have sustained a Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) and I would encourage Mark to check it out. There he can find others who are going through similar experiences and have firsthand ideas and thoughts about dealing with these challenges and opportunities.

BTW - I have met Ricky James and watched him ride this summer at Glen Helen, he and his dad are both wonderful people. It was very inspirational to watch him on the track but you should realize that getting back on a bike is not always the wisest thing to do. Everyone is different and the long term complications need to be understood. Ricky is part of an outstanding group called Life Rolls On and I would encourage you & Mark to check it out.

Please understand that before we can allow any solicitation of monies to occur we need to verify the source of the request as well as the need. Additionally, in the interest of providing a "safe" web environment we ask that users under the age of 18 do not give out specific contact information.

Hopefully we will hear from Mark's family soon.

Best wishes,

BV

Jesse- I must say your story is very amazing and inspiring! If he has the determination nothing will stop Mark from getting to riding again. Sometimes it takes time. If he is meant to ride again faith will find a way, it always does. My Dad rides as well. He has been riding since he was a kid and has hurt himself over and over again (noting too serious though), yet he still gets back on because he loves riding. So no matter how big the obstacle if it is what he loves to do then he is going to find a way to do it! Good Luck! 0-0
