Hello everyone, my name is wes, i just heard about this site from a fello rehabber. I was injured on june 10th in a race near Baton Rouge, La.
I shattered my c-4 vertibrae and am currently a quadroplegic. I dont have
a prognosis for my future. but I know i am not the only kid who has gone through this and am looking for others who can provide info, rehab hints and
thoughts on my success. My attitude is good and to be honest, I cant wait
to get back on my bike. Thanks to all, and to those who are going through
this with me, stay the course, fight the fight and remember the future is not written.

Dear Wes417:

It is amazing how you have maintained a positive attitude. We have others that are involved in this foundation that have sustained a Spinal Cord Injury. We have a forum that is protected that is specifically for you. Please email me back with your contact information and I will talk to you about participating in this forum. My email address is shall@riderdown.org

Keep fighting to get better and know that you have just added a number of people to your rooting section.

Take care,

Shawn

Hi Wes,

Welcome, we're glad you found us. I am so sorry to hear about your injury but ecstatic to see your positive attitude shining through. As Shawn has mentioned we have a number of SCI members and we're just in the process of getting the SCI forum up and running. We have an awesome young man from TX who is the moderator of that forum and who will probably jump in here to welcome you in the next day or so, his name is Jeremy Bader and goes by screen name jeremy68. You can also visit his web site at www.jeremybader.com . Danny Magoo Chandler is another person who will be involved and we can put you in touch with him him by phone. Danny was one of the top pro's of the 70's and 80's before his injury at the Bercy Supercross, Paris in 1985. You can read more about Danny at www.dannymagoo.com

We look forward to getting to know you better and please feel free to ask away. I have sent Jeremy a private message to make him aware of your request.

Talk to you soon and God Bless.
Joe

Hey Wes,

Welcome to the forum, I hope we can provide some of what you're looking for! Sure am sorry to hear about your crash, some day you'll have to tell us more about your riding, what kind of bike you have, etc.. Above all else, the one thing most of us have in common here is a love for riding dirt bikes.

A positive attitude and a determined approach are keys to success in life and they will take you far in my opinion. Take care & hang tough! Keep in touch.

It was sure great meeting you at TIRR and it looks like you were able to access the site long before I was able to get home and get on the computer. We'll keep in touch and maybe next time we'll be the ones racing chairs in the parking garage. Jeremy

Happy Thanksgiving to both of you.

I will work hard to get more people involved in the SCI forum. Keep checking and hopefully we will get some interaction going.

Hi Wes,

Welcome. My son has an accident this past June also. He was racing at the GNC QUad nationals at Steel City in PA and broke his T3 through T8. He is a "complete" T8 but has a great attitude like you. It must be something with racers. The never give up attitude will take you a long way!! My son, Anthony, is just getting going on this site but I'm sure you'll talk to him soon. He met a 30 yr old woman at rehab who is a C3 and now has movement all the way down to her knees. She just got some small movement in her calf last week. It has been two years since her injury and she is still regaining movement. Don't let ANYONE tell you ANYTHING negative. SCI is not an exact science and everyone I know has exceeded the doctor's prognosis.
We are trying to get a new class started in the nationals with a sit down ATV. It is made by Redline and can be seen on their website at www.1redline.com. Check it out. I know if your parents are anything like my wife, just the idea of racing again can bring up horrible thoughts. I don't want Anthony racing a bike or quad again, but this unit is very safe but very competitive. 2007 may just be a test session, but I'm working hard to get this new class for people that want to race but want a safer vehicle or for people that have physical challenges that can be adapted to this unit.
Keep your chin up and fight like hell. Your attitude and inner strength will make you whole again. I look forward to reading about your progress.

Hello, This is wes's dad (Bryon). We got home from our second trip at rehab two days before Thanksgiving. Wes is doing well, He has a little movement in
his arms and for the past two weeks at our local rehab we have been standing him up. The biggest improvement has been his overall health. Wes lost 60 lbs of muscle in 5 weeks in the hospital. Now he has gained most of it back and doesnt get all the UTI's like before. I am sorry to here about your son, sometimes it all seems like a bad dream. Wes is back in school now and doing well. We got him some pretty cool computer stuff and he can do everything we can on it. I believe Wes will walk again someday. Talking about racing and riding again, check out Aaron Baker.com and Ricky James824.com.
Thanks again for the thoughts.

Hey Bryon,

I'm glad to hear Wes is improving and back in school. It's so important to get back to life and be surrounded by friends. How is his movement? Has he had any recent gains? Please keep us updated. I know what you and your family are going through. It's not easy but keep your faith in God and anything is possible.
