On October 14, 2006 Veronica was in a serious accident at Perris Fairgrounds in Perris, Calif. She was practicing on a newly built track where she came up short on a triple jump. Veronica's head took a major blow and when the EMT's got to her, she was breathless. She suffered several injuries including a broken clavical,a punctured lung, fractured skull and bleeding around the brain. She has suffered hearing loss in her left ear which hopefully she will regain with healing. She will be under doctors care for awhile and will be receiving alot more tests during her healing. Please keep Veronica, her parents Jim and Kathy and her brothers in your prayers as this is a very challenging and unfortunate time for them.

First of all I want to say Thank You Donna for taking the time to do all you are doing for Veronica and her family I know that it is appreciated more than you realize. I honestly believe that MX families are the greatest people on earth. Maybe because we know that at any moment it could be our child that came up short on that jump or crashed in the whoops. I saw Veronica this morning and it sure was good to give her a great big hug!! Veronica was discharged from the hospital, however there are so many unanswered questions that the hospital couldn't seem to come up with. Mom and Dad were taking her to her pediatrician to see if they could get a referral to an ear specialist and find out why she cannot hear out of her left ear. Is her eardrum ruptured? What is Wrong? Still so many unanswered questions. I willl keep you posted on any new progress.

Beverly - thank you for the update. It's great to know that Veronica has been discharged but it is troubling to still be dealing with unanswered questions like that.
Veronica - we're pulling for ya! You go girl!! !-!

I spent some time with Veronica yesterday. She is feeling better but moving slow. She seems kinda dazed and says she doesn't remember anything from the accident. Her mom says she's a little grouchy these days but hopefully as she heals so will her spirit. She's very overwhelmed by the "attention" and response from so many people. She's very thankful too. Physically, her hearing on the left is impaired, her clavical protrudes on the left side and she will be having another brain scan. I will continue to post her progression.

Donna,
Thanks for keeping us updated. Veronica sounds like one tough little girl. As all of our MX kids are. They are a different breed !!
Tell Veronica we are cheering and praying for her all at the same time !

Hi Donna,
Thanks for the update, it sounds like Veronica is doing much better which is great news.
If you look in the Fundraiser Section of the RiderDown main forum page you will see that I have set up the fundraiser for Veronica and her Family to help with expenses. It's now time to find other forums to post her story on which will direct people to the Helping Veronica Up Fundraiser page.
Take care and let's keep working on it,
David

Is there any new news on Veronica? Have they determined the extent of the damage to her hearing? We are thinking of her and wishing her well!

I saw Veronica over the weekend and she was looking much better. I even got a few smiles out of her. She was at the track with her family watching her brother Jimmy race. She is still under doctors care and will be for some time. She did return to school but no physical activities of course. Her hearing is still bothering her and her clavical still protrudes. Her dad says she can't wait to ride again. That's a brave girl.

I want to update everyone on Veronicas condition. She is doing very well these days. Her clavical still protrudes and surgery may be the only answer for that. She is full of smiles and counting down the days until she can get on her bike again. I had the privlege to deliver a package from the foundation to her on Saturday. Veronica was so overwhelmed by all the "cool" things sent to her. Thank you! Photos following.
