Jonathan Royster (I think he is 7) broke his tib and fib at Birch Creek. He was run over by another rider.
Ortho says he will be out for months. The family lives in TN.
Jonathan just recently came home from LL's with a very impressive finish in the 4-6 class.
Any ARC Angels in TN ??

Ouch! We do have the TenesseeSandman, perhaps we can see what he's up to these days besides getting ready for Myostock.
J - Fly, hang tough dude, let it heal.

I thought I would give you guys an update on Jonathan. He broke his tibia and fibula on September 2nd at Birch Creek MX in Danville, VA. Jonathan is in a full leg cast until he goes back to the Orthopedist on 10/24/06. At that time, he will get x-rayed again and if the doctor is satisfied with his progress he will get a walking cast. I have no idea how long he would remain in the walking cast or how long it will be before he is cleared to ride again. I suspect that he will be lucky to be in race shape in time for the Mini O's.
Thanks again for thinking of Jonathan and for your commitment to helping injured riders of all ages.

I wish all the best to Jonathan and his family during this long recovery process. I know it’s hard to be patient when you’re off the bike, but getting back to 100 percent before riding again will pay big in the long run.
Hang in there little buddy,

What time frame are you looking at? The wife and boys are going out of town tomorrow afternoon. They'll be back Sunday but we are leaving again Thursday to visit Grandma.

Jonathan got a visit from an A.R.C. Angel last night. The Angel was Jonathan's racing buddy Cameron. We'll post some pics a little later.
Thanks to Rider Down and Rocky Mountain ATV*MC for this awesome gift.

Jonathan has been terrific through this whole process so far. Still, he was very happy to receive a visit from his A.R.C. Angel. He was even happier that the A.R.C. Angel was his buddy Cameron.
Pics coming soon.

I tried to upload the photos but the files were too big. I guess I will have to host them somewhere else and post the links. It will be this weekend before I get a chance to do it.

Hang in there guys,
My son just got back on the bike last week from the exact same injury. He was in a the hip to toe cast for six weeks. It probably would have been more like eight weeks except that he filled the bottom of it with sand that was irritating his heel. Four more weeks in the walking cast. It would have been only two, but the Dr didn't trust him to take it easy. As soon as he got the walking cast he was back to doing almost everything. Riding bike, running around etc. I would have let him on the trampoline, but mom wouldn't have it.
His knee was really stiff after getting the full cast off and took a couple days to totally loosen up. When he got the walking cast off his ankle took a couple of weeks to get back to normal. He still runs with his toe sticking out to the side a little bit, but that is getting better also.
We waited a total of 14 weeks to let him ride again. He is only 7 and I could see no reason to rush him. It really is true that they are faster once back on the bike. It took only a couple of minutes to get back up to normal speed pre-accident. Now he is absolutly tapping out his 50.
Just wanted to drop a word of encouragement. I know from KTMtalk that my son started stepping up to the 65 about the same time that yours did. I have also greatly appreciated your advice over there. You guys hang in there and before you know it this will be just a memory.
I'd be happy to hear from you. averysdaddy@yahoo.com

Wow. Thanks for sharing your experience with me. Now I have a better idea of what to expect. We go back to the Orthopedist on the 24th. I assume he will get his walking cast at that time. We figured 2 weeks but 4 weeks sounds reasonable. Was hoping to be back in time for Mini O's but that may be pushing it.

I thought I would give everyone an update on Jonathan. We went back to the Orthopedist today. It's been about 7 1/2 weeks since he broke his Tibia and Fibula while practicing at Birch Creek MX. He wore a splint for a week before getting his permanent cast. Today, the removed the full leg cast and x-rayed his leg to see how it was healing. Although it looked to me like the fracture was still displaced, the doctor seemed happy with his progress. Oh well, he's the one with the medical degree. Anyway, he decided to put Jonathan in a walking boot. Unfortunately, we had to order the boot and it won't be here until tomorrow at the earliest. He has to wear the boot for a minimum of four weeks up to eight weeks. He can try walking without the boot after four weeks but he has to put it back on if he feels any pain.
Right now he seems to be dealing with muscle atrophy. His hamstring seems very tight and he's having difficulty straightening his leg. The doctor offered to send him to therapy but he didn't want to go. I think I will insist if his muscles don't start loosening up in a few days.

Im glad that J-fly is on his way to recovery. Don't forget that Dr. Mark is on board if you have any questions. Sounds to me like it wouldnt hurt to talk to him about Jonathans therapy and /or x-rays. Just my 2 cents !
Thanks !
