On May 14, 2006, Colby Murphy was riding hit Pit Bike at Cypress Creek MX in Plain Dealing, LA. He was jumping over a table top when his bike landed sideways throwing him off the bike and onto the ground head first. He was wearing all of his protective gear but the fall was hard enough to knock him unconscienous. He was air lifted to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport and sent to the ICU unit there where he remained in a coma until Thursday May 18, 2006. He suffered 2 bruises on the right side of his brain and 2 bruises on his right lung. The lung cleared up within 2 days. On Tuesday, May 16 they had to go in and put a tube in his head to drain the fluid and get the swelling down on his brain. He was moved to Willis Knighton Rehabilitation Center on Turesday May 23, 2006. He made a quick recovery of his left leg and is able to walk freely. He still has problems with his left arm, but it is improving. He was released from inpatient rehab on June 6, 2006 and has to continue outpatient rehab 3 times a week for 2 hours each time. Please keep Colby in your prayers.
Thank you!

Hi 105mom,
Thanks for posting and giving us an update on Colby. He has been in our thoughts and prayers since Walt Ritchie brought it to our attention last month. http://www.riderdown.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=199
We will continue to keep him, his family and friends in our thoughts and prayers.

Any updates on Colby? I know it's been a month now, but I'm catching up with the forum and it sounds like Colby took a big spill! Hope everything is going O.K. and we are praying for you. Linda & Mike

Sorry it has been a while, just trying to catch up on everything. Colby is doing very well. He is still going to rehab 2 times a week and is getting stronger everytime. He thinks he is ready to get back on the bike but we keep telling him it will be a while. Although he is getting stronger and moving well on his own, he still leans to the right. Hopefully he will be back to riding by the fall. Thank you so much for your prayers, they have really worked.

Cindy and Colby
Way to hang in there. Recovery seems to take such a long time, and although we know you want to get right back on the bike Colby, take the time to know you can physically handle it, and that your folks can mentally handle it (sometimes that takes a bit longer).
Glad to hear you have come so far since your injury. Fall is just around the corner!
Please keep us posted.
