My son, Dillon, was at Oakhill MX last Sunday racing for Ponca Qualifiers. He was on his 12th moto of the weekend. As he came up the finish line jump, he cross rutted and was thrown about 15 feet and landed on the top of the jump on his head. He instantly lost consiousness and laid there. Jesse Larson, who we have known for several years was right with me. He is a volunteer for RiderDown and was promoting the organization at the race. My son was Careflighted to Harris in Ft. Worth. He has been diagnosed with traumatic amnesia and traumatic brain injury. He is making good progress and is now at a rehab for children in Dallas. Jesse contacted me during the week and let me know he was going to help us with the RiderDown application for help. At this time, I have had to quit my job so I can be with Dillon. My husband is working 3 hours away from here, and comes home as often as possible. We aren't sure how long he will be an inpatient at the rehab, but we are told once he is discharged, he will need outpatient services for the neuro aspect. Jesse came this week and presented us with a care package and some financial assistance from RiderDown. My son does not understand the financial portion of this gracious gift, but wears his hat and bracelets every day. He is 13, with a mental ability of a 6-8 year old at this time. The docs say he will recover, but it may be a long time; not sure on length of time. Dillon, however says he will ride and race again. He loves motocross and wants to continue to be a part of it. Jesse is also doing a fundraiser with RiderDown at TMX race on July 10th.
Thank you RiderDown Foundation. Without you, we would be completely lost and constantly worried on how to pay some bills and buy food and gas for all the time away from home.

Diana - I'm so sorry about the long recovery Dillon is facing. Once things settle a bit, don't hesitate to let us know how else we can help. Please know we are all thinking of you, Dillon and the rest of the family and wishing you the very best.

Thinking of Dillon and the family, I hope everything is improving. The fundraiser at Stadium Yamaha should do well! Take care and keep in touch.

We had a decent turn out at the benefit this weekend. I am trying to get Dillon into som cognitive therapy, and hitting walls. I have one doctor that says he still needs to wait until school, and I am thinking... really...he doesn't even know how to lock the front door. I am going to have to look at another neuro doc that wants to take advantage of cognitive therapy now. It just seems that waiting until he goes into school is a waste of time. I know my insurance doesn't cover much, but that is why I am trying to raise money, to pay for what my son needs.
Sorry to complain, just so frustrated. I do appreciate all the help and support. Hope everyone is doing well. My prayers are coninuing for all riders and families out there.

Track Momma, please know that there are so many people out there sending good thoughts and prayers your way. Please I know for a fact; that sometimes you just want to throw your hands up and run as fast as you can.... Just stick your chest out and pull the horns from your head and be tough, be hateful if you have to... Try and get into the mind frame that those "Medical" people work for you and you tell them what you want and if they don't do it the way you want; FIRE them. That is your choice, listen to your inner voice and go with that. We had to get very nasty with the "Medical" people here when Amanda was hurt, just NEVER GIVE UP!!!

Amanda's boyfriend Coty was in a Coma from a brain injury crashing in the desert. I will try and get him on here to talk to you and Dillon. Just remember, we are all here for you and this is a great place to vent; I've done my share of that for sure.

Thank you 688MOM!!!! It really does help to know that you aren't alone. I will stand up and fight. I hope Amanda and Coty are doing well. You too!!! Alot of people don't realize what this does to us parents as well... sometimes I think I am the one that has a brain injury. Cant remember......or spell.
Thanks again for the words of wisdom and encouragement!

Go Dillon!! I know there is another thread for Dillon somewhere on here.... How is the adjustment with the move going?

The adjustment is going pretty good. He really misses his friends and we are working on keeping those lines open for him. I do believe he likes his room though. It is all motocross! No surprise. The last doctor visit was good. We are so thankful for that! He is looking forward to starting home school in a couple of weeks. The dr wanted a few more weeks of recovery and adjustment to the new living situation.
