Eric, over the past couple of years, has become an avid dirtbike rider. When riding with friends in Brazil, Indiana, Eric was seriously injured after he was shot off of his bike head first into a tree. He could not move and could not talk at the time, disallowing his friends to find him easily. After two hours of searching, Eric was found in thick brush conscious, where he told his friends that he knew he had broken his neck and that he could not feel anything below his shoulders. After being airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, doctors informed Eric and his family that he had crushed his C4 vertebrae, and that it had been putting pressure onto the spinal cord. The injury has, for the time being, caused eric to have no feeling or movement below his nipple line - he can move and feel from his upper arms upward. However, Eric and his family's hopes and spirits are high, and he swears that one day he will walk again.
