Hi, my name is Corey Coyne. On October 1st, 2009 I was practicing out at Perris Raceway in southern Calfornia when I had the worst crash of my life. I don't remember it, but my friends that were there said I went over the bars on the landing of a big triple. After some tumbling and cartwheels, I came to a stop and could not move, or apparently feel anything from my neck down. While I was conscious most of the time, my first memory is of the next day in intensive care, where I was told I had suffered a concussion and a burst fracture to my C5 vertebare in my neck. While I did enough damage to my spinal cord to render me paralyzed, my injury was "incomplete" - meaning I had a decent chance of regaining movement and walking again. Sure enough, after two weeks in intensive care and another six weeks of therapy at Casa Colina rehab hospital I was starting to walk using a walker. Now I am home and have recently started walking without the assistance of a walker or cane, and am continuing outpatient therapy locally, with the hope of regaining my strength and motor skills in my arms and hands enough to resume my former job as a motorcycle mechanic.
I would like to thank everyone at RiderDown for their generous money donation, moral support, and prayers. I think this whole event has been even harder on my parents and family than myself, and every bit of encouragement and support people have offered us through this time has made all the difference. Thank you so much everyone! RiderDown Foundation rocks!
