A young member of our club, the Steel City Riders (Ontario) was injured a few weeks ago. He is only 8 years old. He broke both legs in 3 spots, after hitting a tree practicing the day before a race. I know he is now home from the hospital but he still has a long recovery ahead. I will be getting an update from his family at this weekend's race.

Jen,
Thanks for telling us about Tyler. That's quite a lot for an 8 year old to have to go through. I bet he's still anxious to get back on the bike too.
We wish him the best and we may have a little something to help cheer him up.
All the best,
Joe

Thanks to all for the warm wishes. Tyler wheeled his wheelchair in today and read the posts and brought a smile to his face. I could tell that really made him feel special. Tyler is doing well considering the extent of his injurys. The doctor says shes pleased with the placement of the pins and the bones look like there going to be in great shape to heal. His frustration seems to be the biggest hurdle as Tyler is a real "on the go" little guy and hes had enough of couch life. He has started to show some interest in getting back on the bike the past few days so maybe ill hold off on selling the bike for now (that was his first wish in the hospital :-) .
Tylers throttle stuck on his KTM 50 in a section riddled with trees outlining the track. Unfortunately the trees won. Hes a tuff little guy and hes looking forward to getting back on his feet soon.
Thanks again

Hi Brent,
Welcome, it is good to hear that Tyler is doing so well considering the circumstances. I know it's especially difficult for a parent to see their child have to endure such a thing. Hang in there, one day it will be a story he's telling his children.
We have a number of parents here that have been in a similar situation, I'm sure you will be hearing from them here.
Tyler, hang in there little buddy and you will be back on your feet in no time. Maybe we can get to see you ride one of these day.
All the best,
Joe

Tylers Dad,
Im so glad to hear that Tyler is doing better. 8) I know what a challenge it can be to keep them down at that age. My son is also 8. He has been racing for four years and riding for five.
We have had our fair share of trips to the ER. Hang in there !

Brent,
Thanks for the update & I'm glad to hear Tyler is doing so well. It's great that we were able to bring a smile while he's going through this tough part of his recovery! :)
Hang in there (all of you) & like Joe said, soon this will be a distant memory & a story that he's telling his kids about!

Tyler, hang in there little racer! I hope you heal up quick. Try to get those wheel chair wheelies down before you have to go back to school...you can impress all your friends :D
Remember, as the old saying goes...scars are like tatoos, with better stories to tell! You'll have some great Tyler vs. the trees stories from this. 8)
Best wishes from the Millers.

Tyler, Sorry to hear of your accident. Glad to hear things are going well. If you lived closer we could race our wheelchairs and you could show me how to do a wheelie in one. However my favorite old saying is "Chicks Dig Scars", dad will explain. Hope you are back riding soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
