A very dear friend of or family, Colby Murphy crashed Sunday May 14th while practicing. He was airlifted to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. He has severe head injuries, and is bleeding from two spots on his brain. The doctors have inserted a drainage tube to help relieve the pressure inside his skull. He also has a fractured pelvis. As of 9:00 last night, the pressure inside his skull was starting to go down, and he was responding to stimulus, although he is still not awake. He is on a ventilator right now as well. Colby is 10 years old and is a great kid, he is always smiling and is well liked at the track. He loves the sport of motocross, and is a very talented young rider. He is one of my sons best friends at the track, so this has hit our family very hard. My family and I are trying to help the Murphys through this difficult time, and your prayers are apprecciated.

Hey Walt,

So sorry to hear about the little guy. With head injuries it can get pretty scary those first few days, but with someone so young the odds are in his favor. It's a slow process at first so hang in there. Please keep us updated if you could we will be thinking and praying for Colby and his family and friends.

God Bless,

Joe

Sorry it has taken me so long to post an update. Things have been pretty hectic here. Colby has been making great progress. On 21 May, he was moved from ICU to a regular room. On 23 May he was transferred to a rehab hospital to begin the long road to recovery. He is now able to stand and walk quite a bit on his own. He is very talkative and in good spirits. He remembers everyone, and he is even starting to remember details of the crash. He still has very little use of his left arm, but the doctors are hopeful that aggressive rehab will enable him to make a full recovery. He still has a long road ahead of him, but he is a tough kid so I don't doubt he will make it.

I have some more great news, and proof that prayers work. Colby is going to go home tomorrow. Over the weekend Colby started regaining some of the use in his left arm, and he is walking around and progressing ahead of schedule in rehab. He still has very little use of his left hand, but before this weekend he wasn't able to lift his arm up on his own so the progress is there. He still has a long way to go.
