Well, because my club's event was canceled due to the rain, some buddies and I went up to Vermont for a little racing. NECC is a series that's gaining some momentum, putting on events that have a much more laid-back atmosphere and a stronger focus on fun than the better-established NETRA series.
It's probably been 5 years since I ran a hare scramble. I don't run this series so I didn't want to interrupt any guys running for points. So I made it a point to be the last guy off the line and just treated it like a training ride.
Conditions were very, very muddy. We've had the rainiest summer in decades here. The course was really chewed up by the UTVs, Quads, and C class that went off before we did. I just kept motoring and didn't really stress about my position....even pulled off to relieve myself at one point.
After my fifth lap, I could have done one more, but I decided that I'd had enough fun and needed to keep my bike in relatively good shape for the enduro on the next weekend.
Because I didn't do as many laps as possible I figured that I'd finished last. So I cleaned up and hit the road for a long drive home.
About 5 miles down the road I got a voice mail from one of my buddies at the race. He said "Hey jackass, you won." I ended up taking 1st out of 5 guys in B-vet that day. Not really sure how. Glad I didn't bother to do that 6th lap. :cool Didn't need it after all. :thumb
