Mike Harris crashed on 05/14/2009 on a Freestyle ramp in a parking lot of the local Slick Cart Track. Witnesses say that he over jumped the landing ramp, semi landed it, lost control and went head first into the pavement. He is at Providence Medical Center in Medford, Oregon and had been in a coma for 3 weeks before awaking on Friday the 5th of June. Doctors did not give Mike a very good chance of recovering; however the strength he has to get back on his feet has shown through.
Mike currently is able to communicate clearly with one word answers. His Left leg and Right arm are strong and function well. The Right leg and the Left arm are not doing as well. They have been unable to make contact with the Doctor since Mike awoke and are a little frustrated with that. I encouraged him to be persistent and demand to see the Doctor; don’t take no for an answer.
Mike Harris is in a difficult situation as at the age of 22, he is the legal guardian of his 16 year old sister Amber after his father died suddenly 1 ½ year ago and his mother has the last stages of M.S. and lives out of state. Mike and Amber share rent with a friend, so the friend Justin is now taking care of Amber.
Mike did not have Health Insurance as Mike and Justin just opened a small roofing business about 1 ½ years ago. They had minimal employees as they did the work themselves.
