Amanda was released from the Hospital after spending a couple of days. A week ago a friend gave her a short ride from one side to the other side of the track. He even made her sit in front so she would not get hurt. After 15 minutes standing, a friend came up and said “that’s really gross, what did you do?”. Well, the exhaust burnt a 3”x3” hole in the back of her lower leg; there was a huge blister. She can’t feel hot or cold and didn’t even feel it happening and yes it is her bad leg.
They had a Paramedic look at it and he said to keep an eye on it and leave the blister along. She got home late that evening and the next morning she came into my room and made me promise not to get mad… She showed me the burn and the blister had fallen off in the middle of the night. I could see the muscle; it burned so deep. I told her we were going to the Doctor and of course she put up a fight. For gosh sake she’s 22 years old… what could I do, but be a nag, nag, nag.
Two days later, she said she didn’t feel well and showed me the burn and it had grown to about 6”x6” with bright red all around it. We went to the E.R. and the Doctor said it was a 3rd degree burn and it was getting infected, showed me how to clean it; gave her some medicine and drew with a permanent marker around the redness. He said if it gets outside of the marker get her back immediately.
Two days later, we were back in the E.R. The Doctor was seriously worried because of the background of the leg and the fact the redness had gone well outside of the marker. The leg hurt even with the slightest touch. He immediately admitted her and they started her on I.V. antibiotics. The next morning they started her on a stronger one as they did not like the results that they had with the previous one. Well, she had an allergic reaction to this one and started itching with bright red skin, she was burning up. They finally got everything under control and I have her home once again. She is still on antibiotics and we have to strip the burn area 2x daily and reapply medication.
SOOO, I truly thought we were on the downhill… I guess thou the burn had to remind us that she needs to be so careful and not to forget about that little leg…
