. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
DENVER, CO (April 13) -- The Colorado Legislature has formed the Roadless Areas Review Task Force in response to the Bush Administration's Roadless policy. This task force will review and make recommendations to Governor Owens on how each Roadless Area in Colorado should be managed.
Unfortunately, powerful special interests are trying to use this process to lock up millions of acres of Colorado's forests, ultimately paving the way for Wilderness designation.
Bolstered by huge grants from wealthy foundations, Colorado's anti-access groups are pushing Colorado's Roadless Task Force to increase Roadless areas and impose new limits on vehicle use.
Colorado's Off-Highway Vehicle community has responded with information and suggestions designed to protect the backcountry character of Roadless areas -- while still allowing recreational use. However, our reasonable voice is in danger of being drowned out by the shrill cry of the radical environmentalists.
The danger here is that powerful out of state foundations and national Wilderness activist groups will attempt to pressure Governor Owens into endorsing restrictive management of Roadless areas.
That's why we're asking you to stand with BRC and others who want to protect responsible recreational access to Colorado's Roadless areas.
The following are links to a letter to Governor Owens asking for reasonable management of Colorado's Roadless areas. By signing and returning your letter, you will help demonstrate public support for recreational access to these areas. Simply click on the link below to download the petition for printing.

Your petition, which we will deliver with the petitions of thousands of other recreationists, will make it clear to Governor Owens that he has the support of Colorado's recreationists in keeping our National Forests open for recreation.
Colorado has nearly 4.4 million acres of inventoried Roadless areas. The recommendations of this task force will affect recreational access to these lands. That's why it's critical that you weigh in on this issue today.
NOTE: BRC is working in partnership with the Colorado Off Highway Vehicle Coalition, the Colorado Snowmobile Association, the Colorado Association of 4WD Clubs, and their member clubs in this effort. Your petition will be added to many thousands of others so PLEASE -- do your part and help protect Colorado's recreational heritage by returning your petition today.
Colorado Roadless Action Item:
What you need to do:
The Task Force must hear from those who want to protect access for recreation to Colorado's National Forests and here is how:
1. Print petitions for your friends to fill-out, sign and mail in to BRC (see address below)
2. Bring copies of the petition to your next club meeting, and distribute them with instructions
3. Publish this information in your club newsletter with mailing instructions
4. Attend a Task Force meeting and sign up to speak out for motorized access
5. Fill-out and sign your petitions and mail them back to the BlueRibbon Coalition at: 4555 Burley Drive, Suite A, Pocatello, ID, 83202.
The BlueRibbon Coalition and Colorado Off-Highway Vehicle Coalition will combine your letter with thousands of others from all over the state and present them to Colorado's Roadless Areas Task Force and Governor Owens.
We are working closely with other access groups such as the BlueRibbon Coalition, Colorado Snowmobile Association and Colorado Association of 4WD Clubs to raise awareness.
Time is short so please send your letter today. Our plan is to deliver the petitions at the June 22, 2006 meeting of the Task Force in Grand Junction. That means you need to get yours in the mail today!
