My son Travis was a surprise recipient of an ARC angle package this weekend and was honored and thrilled to be selected. Travis has had a tough past 12 months. With a bruised spleen, compliments of Mr. Handlebar, and a couple broken arms he has spent more time off the bike than on. However, this nine year old has such a great outlook on life its really hard to ever call him a "RiderDown." That being said, a little pick me up is always welcome and we thank the entire RiderDown team.
The thought of quitting racing entered his mind for about 20 minutes while sitting in the ER after his last break. His mother had him talked in to selling the trailer and all the bikes and getting a pool at the house. We'll sometime between triage and getting to see the ER doctor, Travis already was worried "do we have to sell ALL the bikes?" Its been six weeks since his last injury and it looks like he will be released to ride later this week. While we as a family have decided to turn down the racing aspect a couple notches, Travis is already planning on racing Mammoth in June and has agreed to working with a trainer/coach to be better prepared.
While all these kids love to ride their bikes, the bike riding is just a special bond that they have with one another. Its the relationships and friendships the kids, and their families, make along this motocross journey that are the true reward. While we are grateful for the package of goodies we received from RiderDown this last weekend, we are blessed to be included as part of this precious extraordinary group of dirt bike people that we all call family. Thank you all for just being there!
Travis would like to send his best wishes to James Marshall, Ernesto Fonseca, Tyler, Branden and everyone else that is coming back from an injury. Get well soon all and he?ll see you at the track!!!
