The soul is dyed the color of its thoughts. Think only on those things that are in line with your principles and can bear the light of day. The content of your character is your choice. Day by day, what you do is who you become.

Heraclitus
535-475 BC (approximately), Philosopher and Author

I truly believe this and I also believe this is what our soul takes back to our creator when we join him again. It is my belief we are here to experience life and take back all of what we have learned and felt back to him.

"The first step in changing anything is to know and accept that you have chosen it to be what it is. If you cant accept this on a personal level, agree to it through your understanding that we are all one. Today's thought is:

Many of us achieve only the semblance of communication with others; what we say is often not contingent on what the other has just said, and neither of us is aware that we are not communicating.
--Desy Safan-Gerard

When we don't listen fully to each other, when we don't revere the Spirit within others that's trying to talk to us, we destroy the connection that wants to be made between our Spirits. Our inner selves have messages to give and messages to receive for the good of all. Our ego selves often keep us from hearing the very words that would unravel a problem in our lives.

How hard it is, how often, to be still and to fully listen to the words, rather than the person. How much more familiar it is to filter the message with our own ongoing inner dialogue--our own ongoing continual assessment of another's personhood at the very time our higher power is trying to reach us through them.

There really are no wasted words. Messages are everywhere. We can learn to listen.

I will hear just what I need to hear today. I will open myself fully to the words.

Ok - so they are not my words, but this is something I'm trying to work on. Maybe someone else out there can use it too.

Thanks,

BV

It's hard to see the Picture when you're inside the Frame

This is an old saying that I found to be so true years ago.

When ever I'm stressed out over a situation (And I bet there has been a couple years worth) I'll wake up in the middle of the night, which always seems to be the time your fears have the greatest power over you and can really take hold. Instead of laying there tossing and turning and thinking how it is all going to come apart on me, I learned this simple trick. I get up and I go some place quiet in the house and I write all my concerns and fears down on paper. Now they are out there in front of me where I can look at them one by one and they can't terrorize me anymore by throwing all these crazy emotions at me at once beating me up. I can take each one dissect it, give it some good thought, get mad, sad or just plain cry over it and by doing so I have taken away it's power over me, it's like I have help within deciding on a plan of attack for each one of them. This has become a great form of goal setting, a forced one at that but it works and by having a plan and acting on it you know you have given it your best shot, no matter how it may turn out, you have stood up and faced that big bully-fear.

This just happened to be one of those nights. Have a great Day!! :D

Where have all the flowers gone?
Girls have picked them every one
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the young girls gone?

Where have all the young girls gone?
Taken husbands every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the young men gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the young men gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the young men gone?
Gone for soldiers every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Gone to graveyards every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the graveyards gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the graveyards gone?

Lessons We Learn From Geese
Author Unknown

Fact 1:
As each goose flaps its wings it creates an "uplift" for the birds that follow. By flying in a "V" formation, the whole flock adds 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew alone.

Lesson:
People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.

Fact 2:
When a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of flying alone. It quickly moves back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front of it.

Lesson:
If we have as much sense as a goose we stay in formation with those headed where we want to go. We are willing to accept their help and give our help to others.

Fact 3:
When the lead goose tires, it rotates back into the formation and another goose flies to the point position.

Lesson:
It pays to take turns doing the hard tasks and sharing leadership. As with geese, people are interdependent on each other's skills, capabilities and unique arrangements of gifts, talents or resources.

Fact 4:
The geese flying in formation honk to encourage those up front to keep up their speed.

Lesson:
We need to make sure honking is encouraging. In groups where there is encouragement the production is much greater. The power of encouragement (to stand by one's heart or core values and encourage the heart and core of others) is the quality of honking we seek.

Fact 5:
When a goose gets sick, wounded, or shot down, two geese drop out of formation and follow it down to help and protect it. They stay with it until it dies or is able to fly again. Then, they launch out with another formation or catch up with the flock.

Lesson:
If we have as much sense as geese, we will stand by each other in difficult times as well as when we are strong.

I hired a plumber to help me restore an old farmhouse, and after he had just finished a rough first day on the job, a flat tire made him lose an hour of work & his electric drill quit, his ancient one ton truck refused to start. As I drove him home, he sat in stony silence.

On arriving he invited me in to meet his family. As we walked toward the front door, he paused briefly at a small tree, touching the tips of the branches with both hands. Upon opening the door he had undergone an amazing transformation. His tanned face was wreathed in smiles and he hugged his two small children and gave his wife a kiss.

Afterward he walked me to the car. We passed the tree and my curiosity got the better of me. I asked him about what I had seen him do at the little tree.

"Oh, that's my trouble tree," he replied. "I know I can't help having troubles on the job, but one thing's for sure, those troubles don't belong in the house with my wife and the children. So I just hang them up on the tree every night when I come home and ask God to take care of them. Then in the morning I pick them up again."

"Funny thing is," he smiled, "when I come out in the morning to pick them up, there aren't nearly as many as I remember hanging up the night before."

:) SMILE :)
Author Unknown

A Smile costs nothing, but gives much

It enriches those who receive, without making poorer those who give

It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever

None is so rich or mighty that he can get along without it,
and none is so poor, but that he can be made rich by it

A Smile creates happiness in the home, fosters good will in business,
and is the countersign of friendship

It brings rest to the weary, cheer to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad,
and it is nature's best antidote for trouble.

Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen,
for it is something that is of no value to anyone, until it is given away

Some people are too tired to give you a smile;
Give them one of yours, as none needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give.

I believe to accomplish anything worthwhile you must be able to visualize it first. I also believe this is a form of prayer whether we are thinking of helping someone else or ourselves, this energy we create with our thoughts has a great power. This same power that can create so many good things can also create a lot of not so good things too. A good example is where our news media has gone with it and also created some of the problems we have seen over these past years. I refuse to get hung up on all the negative sensationlism the media loves to create to sell advertising space and I would rather concentrate on the good each one of us has the ability to create. Together we can accomplish anything.

Ok, since it's a holiday weekend here is a light hearted tribute to the late Rodney Dangerfield.:bounce:

A girl phoned me the other day and said .... Come on over, there's nobody home. I went over. Nobody was home. (Rodney Dangerfield)

If it weren't for pick-pocketers I'd have no sex life at all. (Rodney Dangerfield)

And we were poor too. Why if I wasn't born a boy.... I'd have nothing to play with. (Rodney Dangerfield)

During sex my girlfriend always wants to talk to me. Just the other night she called me from a hotel. (Rodney Dangerfield)

One day as I came home early from work ..... I saw a guy jogging naked. I said to the guy .... Hey buddy .... why are you doing that for? He said .... Because you came home early. (Rodney Dangerfield)

Its been a rough day. I got up this morning .... put on a shirt and a button fell off. I picked up my briefcase and the handle came off. I'm afraid to go to the bathroom. (Rodney Dangerfield)

When I played in the sandbox the cat kept covering me up. (Rodney Dangerfield)

I could tell that my parents hated me. My bath toys were a toaster and a radio. (Rodney Dangerfield)

My mother never breast fed me.She told me that she only liked me as a friend. (Rodney Dangerfield)

My father carries around the picture of the kid who came with his wallet. (Rodney Dangerfield)

When I was born .... the doctor came out to the waiting room and said to my father .... I'm very sorry. We did everything we could....but he pulled through. (Rodney Dangerfield)

My mother had morning sickness after I was born. (Rodney Dangerfield)

I remember the time I was kidnapped and they sent a piece of my finger to my father. He said he wanted more proof. (Rodney Dangerfield)

Once when I was lost..... I saw a policeman and asked him to help me find my parents. I said to him ..... do you think we'll ever find them? He said ... I don't know kid .... there are so many places they can hide. (Rodney Dangerfield)

On Halloween .... the parents send their kids out looking like me. Last year... one kid tried to rip my face off! Now its different...when I answer the door the kids hand me candy. (Rodney Dangerfield)

My wife made me join a bridge club. I jump off next Tuesday. (Rodney Dangerfield)

I worked in a pet shop and people kept asking how big I'd get. (Rodney Dangerfield)

I went to see my doctor. Doctor, every morning when I get up and look in the mirror... I feel like throwing up; What's wrong with me? He said... I don't know but your eyesight is perfect. (Rodney Dangerfield)

My psychiatrist told me I'm going crazy. I told him .... If you don't mind I'd like a second opinion. He said .... Alright.... you're ugly too! (Rodney Dangerfield)

When I was born the doctor took one look at my face .... turned me over and said. Look ... twins! (Rodney Dangerfield)

Just had to comment on the USA TODAY story on Jimmie Johnson after winning the NASCAR championship. He dreamed of a motocross championship. Says he raced from age 5 until age 12 when he had a major knee injury riding. After that is when he was introduced to stock cars. Just another example of being down but not out.

You've got it Jeremy! I've often heard the old saying that "when one door closes....another one opens" and the longer I'm on this planet the more I see how true that really is. Of course, our eyes (and hearts & minds) have to be open to those new ideas and opportunities.

Well, I made it through the first 10 pages. I'll come back later and try to finish them up and maybe add one or two of my own.
Here's something I have drilled into my son. I haven't read it anywhere. I just learned it the hard way.

"Your choices today will determine where you stand in the future."

And here's the same thing the way I learned it.
"Where you stand today, is a direct result of choices you made in the past."

Great thread!

This one is about enjoying the moment. We are like kids at Christmas time filled with anticipation of what lies for us under the tree when Christmas day arrives and we can't wait until we see if our dreams will come true. As we get older we realize the real fun was the weeks before Christmas when the excitement of what was to be was still the dream. Don't miss out on your journey or your today by always looking for tomorrow.

"It is good to have an end to journey towards;
but it is the journey the matters in the end."
