Hello my fellow RiderDown Members!
Being an avid off-road racer here in California you can't help but race in Baja and over the many years of racing up and down Baja, I have fallen in love with this peninsula and would love to share it you. It's an amazing place with a vast diversity of different terrain, from Desert to Pines to Beaches!
So I contacted Baja Bound Adventures the most experienced Baja tour organizers to put together our 1st Annual Big Bikes to Baja. Please read below.
So please read below and contact Jennifer at Baja Bound Adventures.
Great news....... June 19-23 is our Adventure Touring / Dual Sport ride finally!**
This ride will be specifically tailored to your type of bike. Don't worry, you'll still be riding plenty of beat up Baja roads, just not killing yourself on the tighter single track, gnarly rocks and miles upon miles of sand whoops!
We have teamed up with RiderDown.org to help injured fellow off roaders by donating $100 per guest from our June Dual Sport ride.
(You can donate more if you like!) Please check out their web site, they do great things for injured riders and their families.
_
The ride cost is $1500 with your own (approved) bike and includes:
Your transportation to and from San Diego
All fuel
Hotels - double occupancy
3 meals a day
Snacks and drinks on the trail
A cool T-shirt
Logistics planning and trail selection by our Baja guru and guide, Tim Morton
4 person staff of 2 truck drivers, lead and sweep riders
2 support trucks
Prizes from our sponsors
And of course, 4 riding days and 4 nights in Baja (We can add another riding day if the demand is there)
Rental bikes are available for an additional fee- but this special event is about riding your own bike in Baja.
Our crew takes care of transporting your bags from night stop to night stop, all you do is ride, enjoy the scenery and eat killer food along the way.
Our ideal group size is 10-12 riders and spaces will fill up fast. I suggest you register early so you don't miss out on the fun.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask, I'm here to help with your plans.
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
Jennifer Morton

Hello Baja Riders,
Thank you so much for your patience. We now have enough riders assembled for a great Baja ride while helping out our friends at RiderDown.org at the same time!
T
We will be meeting here in Escondido (North San Diego) on June 19th at 1:00pm. From here you may either ride into Baja on your bike, or take a break in our trucks and load it on our trailer.
You will spend the night of the 19th in Mexico then start your journey the next morning.
Your 4 riding days will be June 20,21,22,23 and you can expect to be back in Escondido around 7:00pm on the 23rd.
You are welcome to stay in Baja, eat more great food, check out more sights, you don't have to head back with the Baja Bound crew. You'll be on your own after the 23rd though.
Please let me know if you have any questions when you get the packet.
I'm looking forward to meeting you and our leader, Tim, is excited to show you why he loves Baja.
Have a great weekend,
Jennifer Morton

The 1st Annual RiderDown’s Big Bikes in Baja.
Disclaimer: If I'd written all the truth about this Baja trip- including me - there would be people rotting in prison cells from Ensenada to Tecete today. Absolute truth is a very rare and dangerous commodity in the context of professional journalism.
“Buy the ticket, take the ride”
http://www.friedneckbones.com/RDFBAJA_08/bajabound_1.JPG
Well, it started out as a ride for big bikes, but morphed into just a good ole fashioned Baja run across the desert on 450’s , 650’s and 1 KTM 950! So, we could call it the 1st Annual Big Bike in Baja.. followed by a bunch of wimps on small bikes!
The trip started off for me by picking up the exhaulted leader of RDF “Bruce-pass the Tequilla Vermullen” at the airport in San Diego. From there we went to the BajaBound HQ where Tim and Jen Morton and their crew where getting all the gear and bikes together!!
http://www.friedneckbones.com/RDFBAJA_08/bajabound_5.JPG
All loaded “Bikes and Gear that is” and off to Mexico. Bruce has just found out that he is riding with a caged animal!
http://www.friedneckbones.com/RDFBAJA_08/bajabound_8A.JPG
Crossing the border..no turning back now!
http://www.friedneckbones.com/RDFBAJA_08/bajabound_7.JPG
We make it across the border and to our staging area at a clandestine location. We unload gear up and have out host/guide give us the briefing of what is to be our ride!
http://www.friedneckbonesracing.com/RDFBAJA_08/bajabound_11A.JPG
The Baja Bound Crew!
The Leader “Tim Morton:

Mr Morton Chase Truck and entertainment director.
http://www.friedneckbonesracing.com/RDFBAJA_08/bajabound_4.JPG
So off we go across the northern border area of Baja through farm land, and opens spaces towards our first nights stay in Ensenada.
http://www.friedneckbones.com/RDFBAJA_08/bajabound_11.JPG
The first day was a bonus ride day and just a good chance to get your riding legs in shape for the long miles to come. We make our way over to HWY3 heading west by crusing through some wide open graded roads with cattle cactus. Baja is a great place.. but you must remember one thing while there, in Baja if your going to be stupid, you better be tough! So discretion is always the call while riding there!
We all make it to HWY 3 and hop over the mountain to the coast and into the city of Ensenada, It is not yet dark, but close as we head into twon and our first nights stay at the Famous San Nicholas Hotel, the HQ of SCORE and all the Baja Races. Our bags are all in the rooms waiting for us and we are treated like kings!
http://www.truetraveler.com/San_Nicolas_Hotel.jpg
We clean up while Mr Morton secures our bikes and we head out to dinner in the city! http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/04/Ensenada-at-night.jpg
After dinner, some, who will go unnamed, went to seek out entertainment in the restless city. There are a thousand naked stories in the city and I was Baja bound to run into a few of them!
But first.. we needed to quench Bruce’s thirst at the famous Hussongs
http://www.dubman.com/spooky/hat/pics/hussongs.jpg
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/220/499939157_96eee19744_m.jpg
From there we decided it would be good to call it an early night, to save ourselves for tomorrows dirt filled fun!

We awoke to cool marine layer covered morning and attended breakfast and official debriefing about the previous nights exploits. After a full belly, we mounted our warmed up, fueled up totally prepped bikes courtesy of Mr Morton and headed south on Hwy 1 for approx 20 miles before leaving the pavement on a side dirt road leading to the coast.

We went through some pretty hot areas and the coast was a needed break temp wise for us.. The riding was fun, fast and beautiful. As we came over the last rise before the ocean you could see the fog just hanging out on the coast.. the temp went from 100 to the high 70's.. ahhhhhhhhh

From there we headed south along the cool coast and did some small little single track that dropped in and out of little beach canyons and gullies.. It was a blast, and the fog kept us cool! We say many things that day, one that stands out in my mind was a Coyote Pup "sorry no photo" on our trail, who just was happy to run along with us. he/she couldn't of been more then a few months old, and was enjoying the coast as we where! Another spectacle that was only witnessed by Tim and I was what I will call Coitus interruptus. A young local couple had seen fit to sneak away from town and have a little beach side romance to only be disturbed by a gang of dirt bike scum! I wont go into detail, but I have never seen a dismount like that before outside of the Olympic games! Stunning! we continued south and where just tooling along playing jump the berms ect.. when Chilly was overhear on the radio to say. "We need to get these guys to the safety of the closest bar" So off we went to our hotel and bar for the night.. that was a fast 110 miles of Baja dirt!! A good day!
Pirates Cove bar and Hotel.. they where ready for the likes of us!

That evening we enjoyed what I will call the largest feast known to man in the free world. We enjoyed lobster, fish, shrimp, Steak, Cat, Foot.. It was all there for the eating and we all reached maximum density!
http://www.brittanygite.com/images/seafood_cusine.jpg:thumb
We then consumed liquids till later that evening when I bumped into my twin Brother from Vietnam Leslie Walker, Captain of the Rat Bastard Fishing Fleet.. SMALL WORLD-!! Thats another story for another time.

Ok.. onto day 3 4 and 5.. they all seem to blend into each other..
The next morning we wake up.. not so early and attempt an early start which we all failed to do! So Bruce and I just putted around the Hotel chasing Dogs and small children.. That gave us the chance to do some modeling by the Pacific.

Les, how much fuel capacity/range do you have on the big S.E. I was debating between the S.E. and my Adv, but went for the bigger fuel tanks and luggage.

Well, where was I?
Yes .. the ride!! Bruce and I did a morning ride to pre-cool ourselves in the fog, because we knew it was going to be hot in the interior of the Baja Peninsula.. From the West Coast we made our way down the coast a little then inland over a nice rocky, rolling road which was really fun, it offered a good change of terrain and something to get in a rhythm with.. great fun! That road dropped us off back onto the 1 south and into a little town of San Vecente for Tacos and sodas! These is where I fell in LOVE, with Chilly's mascot "Sugar Mamma"
http://www.friedneckbonesracing.com/RDFBAJA_08/bajabound_10.JPG
unknown to Chilly, through out our trip I had my way with her! I am not going into details, but she will never be the same!

After lunch we headed up a long rocky sand wash, where Bruce decided it would be a good idea to pick up some tie wire just in case he needed it later..the however picked it up with the chain and rear tire!! Bringing his forward motion to a halt!! we had a good giggle watching him get that out of his bike!! :lmao
Our next stop was what was left of an old mission.. Santa Domingo of the Twisted Throttle
http://www.friedneckbonesracing.com/RDFBAJA_08/bajabound_19.JPG
From there we made our way up and over a few small mountain passes to a unique hill climb that Tim Morton talked me in to attempting. It looked like a pretty easy climb but you had to negotiate a few obstacles on the way up and it was pretty loamy soil.. No excuse here, I was going really well, right up to the point where I ran out of talent and lost the bike and then I proceeded to cartwheel backwards down the hill.. laughing the whole way down!! Somehow I did it so only a few people got to see it.. thats best for my ego! I was pretty cooked from the first attempt and did a half effort on the next run and shut it down before it got ugly!! outside temp in 100f, in my helmet 150f
From here we did a little single track exploration for future rides.

We all enjoyed a dip in the pool and a few beverages while we all told each other how great we where! At some point my Scottish Attorney decided he had heard enough from me and dunked me in the pool. Here is a photo of Bob and his son Jesse in his office working on my demise!

That evening when it cooled off to 90 we all where treated to a wonderful feast from the Coyote Kitchen.. Yummie Chicken stuff and Meat things.. good eating.. We had nice cool beverages and good conversation. Then we pulled out the bid items to see if these boys had some cash to spare!
1. a riding Clinic with Jimmy Lewis
2. A ride with Jonah Street
3. A New set of Dunlops
4. A new Sat phone
5. A lap dance from Bruce. I asked we saved that one for a different ride!
The bidding was fast and furious with The Scottish Attorney Bob taking the Sat Phone and the Jonah ride!! NICE WORK BOB!
The Clinic went to Jim and the Tire to Chilly.
I banked the Bruce dance for another time!!
That evening turned out to be a very warm one with little sleep being had. Most of us hung outside with our sippy cups and listened to the coyotes. At some point in the evening, I felt really encumbered by my clothing and decided to go san-shorts.. Tim Morton thought it was mandatory punishment for me to serve beverages in this state for my lack luster performance on the hill climb earlier that day! Many felt uncomfortable, I however felt chilled!

From Coyote Ranch .. the next morning we headed up and over a goat trail to Mikes Sky Ranch.. Some who where afraid to travel with me decided to venture around the other way!! funny how nudity will change the whole dynamics of a trip. Mike was a short trip up and over a mountain.. where a pool and cold drinks waited for us!

From there we headed over to the national forrest via Valle T and the 500/1000 course. Chilly knew the type of deviants he was traveling with, so he showed us some secret single track that was the highlight of the trip! We zig zag through the forrest and made our way to Laguna Hansen
There is water here in the Spring, Winter and fall.. summer however!! DRY!

we where all pretty tired and needed a bit of a shower! The rest of the gang showed up and all chatted about each others experiences of the day! You could sense a bit of sadness in the air knowing that our awesome adventure was coming to an end.. but not before a night of eating and drinking!!
The next day was a short run back to the trucks and the camp where we started.. We did a little single track and a short hop over to look out upon the vast Sonora Desert!!
Good times where had by all, I truly look forward to next years ride and hope to see many of you on it!! Plan ahead.. I will post a date for the 2009

2008 RiderDown Baja Bound Adventure
7/8/2008
By Chilly White
This ride started as a conversation with Baja Bound Adventures' Tim Morton and RiderDown board member Les Walker, talking about some of the activities of RiderDown and favorite rides. Tim suggested putting together a group to tour some of his favorite haunts down south and raise a little money for RiderDown. The group consisted of a variety of both riders and bikes. Coming from as far as Florida and Colorado and riding bikes ranging from the standard fare of 450 enduros up to KTM 's massive 950 Super Enduro. This ride would prove challenging for some and a whole lot of fun for all.
Choosing a route that would accommodate everyone, Morton led the group to some of the better-kept secrets in Baja California. Keeping an eye toward the triple digit temps, we started the first day with a late afternoon ride from Tecate to Ensenada via the well traveled Compadre road. Day 2 forecast warned of temps near 110 degrees inland so we headed for the Pacific Coast. Traveling south down Mexico's Hwy 1 towards Santo Tomas we made a turn westward to be greeted by a refreshing marine layer of cool air that would follow for the rest of the day. This area provides a truly spectacular coastal ride south allowing plenty of opportunities to get on the beach. Since the group included a number of Baja greenhorns we chose a leisurely pace to enjoy the passing landscapes. Keeping the mileage short helped insure we arrived at "Cueva Del Pirata" in time for happy hour. This is one of the newer choices for lodging situated on a bluff overlooking the ocean near the coastal town of Camalu. Here, as with all of our stops, we were treated to some fantastic food and hospitality.
The following day found us turning inland to ride the coastal foothills near San Quintin. One thing about riding northern Baja is that the east and west coasts are separated by an imposing San Pedro Martir mountain range that makes trip planning critical. Like the old adage says "you can't get there from here." Proper planning for things like food, lodging and fuel are not to be taken for granted. Back to the riding, after a great time blasting around fire roads and exploring a few new trails, the group was enticed by the call of the new swimming pool at our next stop "Rancho El Coyote." Situated in a picturesque valley, El Coyote is a branch of the famous Meling family whose ranch has occupied the area near the Parque Nacional del San Pedro Martir for nearly a century. This place is truly "off the grid" with solar power, no phone and no TV. It gets dark here! It can be hard to remember just how dark it can be and how imposing the stars shine at night once away from ambient light of the electric world.
Day 4 and the long hot days are taking a toll of some of the riders. As the day's route includes the famous Baja race course up to Mike's Sky Ranch, some of the riders opt for an easier route on the highway. The rest of us are riding into the mountains with the obligatory stop at Mike's for a coke and photos. North is our goal for the day, up to Laguna Hansen via Valle de Trinidad. When in this area another one of the regions mandatory stops is at Rancho Ramonas. Really just a shack with a couple of lean-to style out buildings, Ramona dispenses soda, candy bars and fuel from a milk jug. It is easy forget the simple yet impoverished lifestyles of so many other people, but here as with most places in Baja, there is always a smile and friendly word even for those who don't know much of the language. This day comes to an end at "Rancho Rodeo Del Rey" situated in the tall Ponderosa pines near Parque Nacional Constutucion de 1857 and another night away from the power lines. Yet even here technology brings things considered impossible just a few years ago. With solar power, satellite internet is now possible and that also means that with Skype you can talk to anyone in the world even from the seemingly remote location.
Day 5 sees us wrapping up the ride back in Tecate, all safe and sound except for a few scratched bikes and flat tires. RiderDown President, Bruce Vermeulen, says, "Two tumbs up, five stars, full knobbies. whatever rating system you choose, the RiderDown Foundation's fundraising ride with Baja Bound Adventures was top notch! The crew, the bikes, the terrain, the food, everything was awesome. On behalf of everyone at RiderDown here's a big thank you for the generosity and support shown by the Mortons' in helping to organize this ride. This event was a huge success by all measures and I personally can't wait to do it again. Bruce hopes for this ride to grow and become one of the number of annual rides for the Foundation. When asked if he had any other comments, "Yeah, I should have ridden Baja long ago!"
The RiderDown Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping responsible off-road motorcyclists and ATV racers who have been injured while riding. Proceeds are used to provide assistance to the riders and their families when faced with medical expenses and related issues.

Here are some photos from my camera which i damaged during circumstances which I cannot speak to. Anyway a few photos remain and from them I have screened and chosen ones which i do not think implicate any specific and identifiable person.
Inlcudes the san nicolas parking lot, the gas station where you buy gas in milk jugs in a shed and stunning beauty of Baja shoreline blurred by the blessed gods and godessess of horsepower torque and speed.
