Well, first off, I'm sorry I'm lagging so badly. This race took place a few weeks ago, it was to be the last round of the Houston Holeshot series, except they had a rain date to make up the weekend before Easter. The kids were spending their Easter break at the grandparent's place in Florida, so that put me out for the make up race.
At any rate, we got there before the sun was up, it was slightly chilly, but a beautiful morning. Of course, I had a big, steaming cup of coffee...that seems to give me a better outlook on the day. They had obviously worked hard on the track and it looked to be in great shape. I tried to shoot several handheld shots and stitch them together to give everyone an idea of what the place looked like. Of course, it didn't really work out that well. But anyway, you get the picture:

I had decided to only run the women's class this time and skip the No Jump Class. It seems like the past few times, I'd run one class and end up rushing back to the gate for the next class, that gets old. Since the NJC was a non-series class, I opted to skip that one. It's probably a good thing, since they ended up gating us with the NJC.
I headed up to the gate for my first moto, the track looked to be in great shape still. There were some nice lines developing, the track was holding moisture and it wasn't rough yet. Alrighty then! There were only two in my class this time, which kind of sucked, but on the other, I was guaranteed a second place! :D The other girl is pretty fast and I've only been able to run with her once before. She was definitely faster than me this time out, I could keep her in sight, but she was jumping stuff I was unwilling to. That seems to be a recurrent theme for me. The cool part was, I got the holeshot! YAY! Since this was the Holeshot Series, that got me a $25 gift certificate to a local shop. Cool beans! There was a new kid running in the NJC, and he and I had a pretty good race. There were a few times I should have taken the inside line as I could have gotten him...but that's out of my comfort zone. Dont worry, I'm working on it.
Second motos came around and the track was definitely drying out and getting rougher. No biggie though, I usually do better the second moto. I need to figure out a way to deal with arm pump, that's a big problem for me the first moto of the day.
We're sitting at the gate and I see this guy and think... man, we need a better looking 30-second board guy. I doubt it'd go over well with the rest of the racers though. :lmao

The gate drops and I'm second to the first turn this time, one of the NJC guys got his first ever holeshot. It was really cool to talk to him afterwards and listen to him describe how he felt. Since they count holeshots for each class, I still got a gift certificate...sweet, the day's race fees are paid for! I rode better the second moto, Meaghan was faster than me again, but she wasn't quite as far out front this time. That kid in the NJC passed me and I was able to pass him back and hold him off, barely. I know we weren't technically racing against each other... but yeah, we still were.
All in all, it was a great day. The weather was just about perfect, the track was awesome and we had fun. The series is over now and I finished 3rd overall. I honestly had no idea what to expect of myself when I started a series. I just knew that I wanted to run one to see how I could do in the long run. I learned alot about myself and what my strengths and weaknesses are. I missed the banquet (we were back in Florida to pick the kids up), but I hear I have a cool trophy and some swag headed my way. I'm hoping to get that stuff tomorrow. :thumb

That kid from the NJC was trying to pass me right before the finish...I was having none of that! I realize they aren't the best pictures, but I thought it was a cool sequence.
