Eight fellow Pathfinders club members and I went down to south Jersey for the Sandy Lane enduro. It's kind of an annual tradition for us because we're right in the middle of a 3-month lull in the New England series.
Besides being a great time hanging out with buddies, we had a very, very fun ride. Here in New England all we tend to ride is roots, rocks, mud, and hills. South Jersey is the exact opposite. It's perfectly flat, sandy, and a more rhythm type of riding. Often times you're going between trees that are narrower than your handlebars.
In the New England series, an enduro usually attracts 100-120 riders. There were around 500 riders at the Sandy Lane. Terrain-wise, us New Englanders were out of our element and we were all impressed with the locals' ability to ride this stuff. Most of us placed in the middle of our respective classes. I dropped 51 and the winner of my class dropped 37. Rich Lafferty took the overall with an amazing 12.
The course was well laid out with the first loop having lots of long resets that let you catch your breath, make a quick fix to your bike or gear, and hook back up with your buddies. The second loop was another 30 miles of fun.
No pics of the riding, but you can see some pics of the motley crew that I ride with here: http://picasaweb.google.com/tonygasper/SandyLane2008
